Run Report – Andover parkrun 01/02/2020
For the first Saturday in February the weather was kind to us by being sunny and mild. This was in stark contrast to the same weekend last year, when heavy snow forced us into one of our alternate courses. Those that were there last year can probably remember RD Paul North telling the runners that the course was not quite 4 laps. We are nothing if not resourceful at Andover parkrun. The conditions this week attracted 429 runners and walkers including 38 first timers 17 of whom completed their very first parkrun. Welcome to the parkrun family. Thank you to Julie Dinkele for supplying parkrunners with oranges as post run refreshments. The first Saturday of the month is milestone shirt day, where anyone that has recently received a shirt can get a lovely group photo taken. There were quite a large number in the picture this month and the different colours displayed showed the wide spectrum of personal achievements. Well done to everyone involved.
There were numerous magnificent milestones on Saturday. Congratulations to Andrew Jackson, Deborah Askew, Fiona Teasdale and husband & wife (great stage management) Mark & Gretta Lovell, who all reached the magical 50 mark, which is the most important in my humble opinion.
The parkrun this week was made possible by the below volunteers.
Janice COOK • Ian OLDACRE • Martin HUGHES • Colin STOKES • James MASTERS • Rob WEST • Ian BEVERIDGE • Julie JACOBS • Megan MARCHANT • Steve BRETT • Jeff BIRKS • Kathleen MOORE • Emma GRAY • Jonathan BURDETT • Bas JACOBS • Kerry WARDELL • Christina SEARLE • Rebekah SEARLE • Jack SEARLE • Amelie SEARLE • Kyle BECKETT • Rebecca MCCOY • Louise BROWN • Martin KAIRYS • George CHINN
It was a fine performance by everyone involved. I would like to mention Emma Gray and Jonathan Burdett, who were travelling down from Northampton on their way to a run on Sunday and wanted to volunteer. Also to Megan Marchant whose attitude to parkrun was infectious. Please check the volunteer roster and please support us in volunteering if you can. To do so please speak to a Run Director, message us on our Facebook page or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The conditions today resulted in 44 new personal bests. Congratulations to everyone that achieved it this week.
Many people spoke to me this week and told me that they enjoyed the run and in particular, the warm and friendly atmosphere. This is testament to all of you lovely runners and volunteers that make the magic happen week in and week out and it is lovely to hear.
