Mini Marathon Time Trial – 22/04/2018

This year’s Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon will take place on Sunday 22 April 2018.

The fastest teenagers in the borough will have the chance to represent Barking and Dagenham in this year’s Virgin Money Giving Mini London Marathon.

Hopefuls must take part in a three-mile time trial at the Jim Peters Stadium, Mayesbrook Park, at 11am on Sunday 28 January 2018.
The quickest six boys and girls in each of the Under-17, U15, and U13 categories over the distance will be selected for the team. The four runners-up in each age group will be chosen as reserves.

To help runners prepare for the Mini London Marathon, which launched in 1986, weekly training sessions will be arranged with local running clubs.

To register, complete the online form or register on the day of the event by visiting the stadium’s club house from 9.30am.

A birthday on junior parkrunday!

A very special junior parkrunday today with a first for us in Central Park; a junior celebrating their 4th birthday. Congratulations to Evie who was our only first timer and finished in a time of 21:28 and even helped pick up the cones on her second lap.

Untitled

Well done to Dad, Andy, who got up super early today to register Evie and went to his parents house at to print a barcode so that Evie would be able to complete her very first junior parkrun in Central Park. What dedication! It has been a complete joy to welcome the Beazeley family to our event. Andy spotted our hi-hiz jackets one morning in January this year and came to have a chat. Since then the whole family have become regulars to Central Park, started doing the 5K events on Saturday, fitted in a spot of tourism and joined our core team of volunteers. We had a lovely morning celebrating with this very special family.

Another special birthday this week for Rahana, one of our regular volunteers, Happy Birthday Rahana! Untitled

A special mention for Maya who received her green marathon wristband for completing 21 junior parkruns. Well done Maya! Loved your beautiful ear warmers, perfect for keeping the chill off in this frosty weather.

Untitled

We had a great turnout with 26 finishers and 5 PBs. Well done to all our brilliant juniors. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers - without you turning up every week, rain or shine, there would be no junior parkrun.

Straight after junior parkrun, some of the volunteers and juniors dashed off to join the Kayleigh 10K charity run organised by one of our parkrun family, Jason Li. The Team Kaleigh 10K Challenge fun run was hosted with the kind and generous support of the local Sikhs in the City running club. The event was to raise additional funds for local 7-year-old girl, Kaleigh Lau's, future medical treatments and assist her fight against a rare and incurable brain tumour known as D.I.P.G. (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).  Team Kayleigh are also trying to increase the awareness of this terrible illness which primarily affects young children.

To find out more about Kaleigh's story, please visit her website at http://kaleigh.ethanet.co.uk/

Our 3rd Anniversary – Event #142

The sunshine was glorious this morning as we celebrated our third anniversary in Central Park and what a celebration - a record 31 finishers, 11 PBs and 2 first timers!

Our first event was held on 13 April 2014 with just 15 runners. Our small, friendly community has gradually grown over the last three years and it was a real pleasure to celebrate with our parkrun family this morning. Thank you to everyone who joined us to make today special and to all our absent friends and parkrun family who have been such a big part of our journey. Untitled

The warm up was led in style by the Jak and Jack.

junior parkrun is a free, weekly 2k run for 4-14 year olds. This week saw the last outing for Manraj from Sikhs in the City, who turns 15 next week, finishing his 24th junior parkrun with a PB of 07:05. Manraj said a heartfelt farewell thanking the volunteers and junior parkrun community for their welcome and support. Thank you Manraj and we wish you the very best for the future.

A special mention was made for Mrs Woodhouse, PE and Science Co-ordinator, from SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Primary School, one of three schools that we visited in January. We have seen our number of juniors and volunteers steadily increase with Mrs Woodhouse's support and encouragement. She is now part of our regular volunteer team and recently completed her first 5k parkrun at Raphael's park. A very welcome addition to the parkrun family and she says it's for life!

Congratulations to Jak who held onto the course record and matched his PB of 06:59 today as well as leading the warm up.

Krishy and Annika received special treats today for completing the most junior parkruns at Central Park. Krishy (for the boys) has an incredible 104 junior parkruns under his belt (97 in Central Park) and Annika (for the girls) has 70 (63 in Central Park).

Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun # 136 – 26/02/2017

100 junior parkruns

Well, what a Super Sunday! Every Sunday is of course special because it's junior parkrun day but this Sunday was extra special - a 100th junior parkrun, a half marathon wristband, one first timer, one birthday and seven PBs.

Untitled

Krishy celebrated an incredible milestone of 100 junior parkruns. As a regular at Barking & Dagenham junior parkrun, he has run 92 out of 100 junior parkruns in our very own Central Park. An absolute star, Krishy didn't just complete his own 2K in style today, he also helped first timer Luca finish his first ever junior parkrun. Fabulous! We are so proud of Krishy showing what the true spirit of junior parkrun is all about.

Untitled

Annika also celebrated a birthday this week so there were treats on hand for our juniors, supplied by Mum and core volunteer Vennisa #parkrunfamily.

Our timekeepers were kept busy with 17 finishers. Our first finisher marked his 75th outing at junior parkrun with a PB recorded by his Dad, another regular with 68 runs at Central Park.

Untitled

Lewis collected his half marathon milestone wristband which he proudly sported around the park, matching his PB time to finish second, with his Mum clocking his finish time as backup timer.

Untitled

A wonderful Sunday morning in Central Park and it is great to see our #parkrunfamily slowly growing and new families joining in.
