Our 3rd Anniversary – Event #142

The sunshine was glorious this morning as we celebrated our third anniversary in Central Park and what a celebration - a record 31 finishers, 11 PBs and 2 first timers!

Our first event was held on 13 April 2014 with just 15 runners. Our small, friendly community has gradually grown over the last three years and it was a real pleasure to celebrate with our parkrun family this morning. Thank you to everyone who joined us to make today special and to all our absent friends and parkrun family who have been such a big part of our journey. Untitled

The warm up was led in style by the Jak and Jack.

junior parkrun is a free, weekly 2k run for 4-14 year olds. This week saw the last outing for Manraj from Sikhs in the City, who turns 15 next week, finishing his 24th junior parkrun with a PB of 07:05. Manraj said a heartfelt farewell thanking the volunteers and junior parkrun community for their welcome and support. Thank you Manraj and we wish you the very best for the future.

A special mention was made for Mrs Woodhouse, PE and Science Co-ordinator, from SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Primary School, one of three schools that we visited in January. We have seen our number of juniors and volunteers steadily increase with Mrs Woodhouse's support and encouragement. She is now part of our regular volunteer team and recently completed her first 5k parkrun at Raphael's park. A very welcome addition to the parkrun family and she says it's for life!

Congratulations to Jak who held onto the course record and matched his PB of 06:59 today as well as leading the warm up.

Krishy and Annika received special treats today for completing the most junior parkruns at Central Park. Krishy (for the boys) has an incredible 104 junior parkruns under his belt (97 in Central Park) and Annika (for the girls) has 70 (63 in Central Park).

Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun # 136 – 26/02/2017

100 junior parkruns

Well, what a Super Sunday! Every Sunday is of course special because it's junior parkrun day but this Sunday was extra special - a 100th junior parkrun, a half marathon wristband, one first timer, one birthday and seven PBs.

Krishy celebrated an incredible milestone of 100 junior parkruns. As a regular at Barking & Dagenham junior parkrun, he has run 92 out of 100 junior parkruns in our very own Central Park. An absolute star, Krishy didn't just complete his own 2K in style today, he also helped first timer Luca finish his first ever junior parkrun. Fabulous! We are so proud of Krishy showing what the true spirit of junior parkrun is all about.

Annika also celebrated a birthday this week so there were treats on hand for our juniors, supplied by Mum and core volunteer Vennisa #parkrunfamily.

Our timekeepers were kept busy with 17 finishers. Our first finisher marked his 75th outing at junior parkrun with a PB recorded by his Dad, another regular with 68 runs at Central Park.

Lewis collected his half marathon milestone wristband which he proudly sported around the park, matching his PB time to finish second, with his Mum clocking his finish time as backup timer.

A wonderful Sunday morning in Central Park and it is great to see our #parkrunfamily slowly growing and new families joining in.

Full results are here and photos are on Flickr.

Inspire a generation – a visit from GB runner Andy Baddeley

Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun # 132 - 29/01/2017

27 finishers, 16 first timers, 2 PBs, a half marathon wristband milestone AND an Olympic athlete!

This week was an extra special event for Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun - we were joined by Andy Baddeley from Team GB who holds the course record of 13:48 for parkrun - the fastest time in the world for the 5K event.

Andy is a two-time Olympian 1500m runner for Great Britain and an Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth finalist. On Friday 27 January, Andy visited three local primary schools with run director Sonya Veerasamy to encourage children to join the junior parkrun event in Central Park.

SS Peter & Paul's Catholic Primary School

The sun shined bright on Sunday 29 January to welcome Andy and 16 first timers to Central Park. Andy took part in the warm-up with our enthusiatic juniors and gave hi-fives to help power them along as they ran, walked and jogged the 2K, two lap course.

Headmistress, Mrs Johnson, SS Peter & Paul's Catholic Primary School also ran the course alongside a number of her pupils, who were very pleased to see her on a Sunday.

Andy kindly stayed to chat with the children and parents and take photos with an excited crowd of volunteers. We can't thank Andy enough of taking the time to help spread the joy of junior parkrun in our local community.

junior parkrun is completely free and open to all children between the ages of 4 to 14. All you need to do is register at, print your barcode and bring it along every Sunday at 9am to Central Park, just behind the fire station.

Several children came today to experience the event for the first time but did not have a chance to print their barcodes, we very hope to see them again next week so they can start clocking up events towards the milestone wristbands.

There are three milestone wristbands for junior parkrun:
11 junior parkruns - Blue (Half Marathon)
21 junior parkruns - Green (Marathon)
50 junior parkruns - Orange (Ultra-Marathon)

Congratulations to Zach Bridges who achieved his half marathon milestone today and was presented his wristband by run director, Barry Culling, before setting a new PB of 12:19. His brother Lewis also set a PB of 10:43 and is only one event away from achieving his own half marathon milestone. The boys kindly helped with post event close down collecting volunteer points which will go towards the special parkrun 25 volunteer t-shirt.

The full results are here. Some photos are on Flickr, official photographs from Bruce Li are here.

Thank you to Vicky Woodhouse at SS Peter & Paul's Catholic, Donna Rose at William Bellamy, Richard Ash at Five Elms and Rowan Ardill at parkrun UK for your help and support in organising the school visits.

A final thank you to all amazing hi-vis heroes - our volunteers...

Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun event number 120 23rd October 2016

A beautiful morning in the sunshine for junior parkrun. Our enthusiastic warm up leaders Julie and Freddie led the way in style ensuring our juniors were fully warmed up before starting their run.

This week there were 14 runners, we welcomed one first timer and recorded four Personal Bests. Manraj Nirbhau Singh Gill was first over the line in 07:18, Jack Morgan followed in 08:52 then Dylan Leadeham in 10:59 with a very strong sprint finish. Ria Sukhija was first girl over the line in 11:02 followed by Lucy Davis in 11:29 and Esha Sukhija in 13:06.

Ansh was the final runner over the line carrying a big leaf to help him draw energy from the sun.

We are delighted that word of our event is spreading following a visit from Donna Rose, PE and Sport Lead at William Bellamy School, last week. We were visited by Victoria Woodhouse, PE and Science Co-ordinator at SS Peter and Paul's Catholic Primary School in Redbridge, this week.

Our thanks to Donna for suggesting additional signage to help guide new runners to our event. We have added a couple of foam hands to the main entrance next to the Fire Station to point people in the right direction and don't forget to look out for our junior parkrun flag.

Good luck to our core volunteers taking part in the Leicester Marathon today - Venny, Timi, Sam and Rahana.
