Run Report – 04/11/2018

WhatsApp Image 2018-11-04 at 12.34.35" alt="Jia and Karina" />

Jia and Karina were both born with ASD heart murmur which meant they had a hole in their heart. Making them less active and breathless with activities. Karina underwent open heart surgery less then 2 years old.

Today at our JPR at Barking and Dagenham the girls wanted to show what children with heart conditions can achieve and how a simple exercise can improve their cardiovascular health which will improve their overall fitness and reduce the risk of them developing cardiovascular disease in later life even if you do not have a heart condition.

JPR is ideal for children with heart conditions because it isn’t a race, children can go at their own pace, jog or walk and can take a break if tired or breathless. Some children with heart conditions may need to avoid contact sports, parkrun is a good way for them to exercise safely.

Well done for my heart warriors for coming so far.

CHF had a special JPR dedicated for CHD which we were invited to attend this morning, we opted to attend our Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun family.

Celebrating 4 years of Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun!

Today we celebrated the 4th Anniversary of Barking and Dagenham junior parkun in Central Park. There were 25 juniors who completed the 2K course with one first timer and 3 PBs.

The full results can be found here:http://www.parkrun.org.uk/barkinganddagenham-juniors/results/latestresults/

Our first event was held on 13 April 2014 with just 7 runners. Our small, friendly community has gradually grown over the last four years and we now regularly have over 30 children participating every week.

Children receive an email after the event with their time and have the opportunity to gain wristbands and certificates at 11, 21 and 50 events, equivalent of a half, full and ultra marathon distance. There is also a certificate for completing 100 events. This week Evie celebrated her half marathon milestone collecting a blue wristband.

The event is entirely run by volunteers and everyone contributed to today's celebration. Ronnie Waller baked a lovely birthday cake. Andy Beazeley designed a badge to commemorate the special occasion. And there were treat bags for everyone!

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen:Andrew BEAZELEY, Vennisa CHOWDHURY, Julie DALPHINIS, Beverley EAGLES, Rahana ISLAM, Nazia ISLAM, Hardeep LADHAR, Jia LADHAR, Christine LARDNER, Michael LARDNER, Jason J M LI, Jenny O'HANLON, Sam VEERASAMY, Sonya VEERASAMY, Kresh VEERASAMY, Timi Selon VEERASAMY, Ronnie WALLER.

About Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun

Barking and Dagenham junior parkrun is a free 2k event for 4-14 year olds held every Sunday at 9am in Central Park, Dagenham. It’s completely free – juniors just need to register with parkrun once and bring a printed copy of their barcode to get their times.  It’s not who comes first or a race against others, it all about having fun, improving your child’s health and community.
