Hello everyone, and welcome to the run report for Event 119 - a 2017 record breaker!
We welcomed a big total of 133 junior participants to a sunny Locke Park on Sunday. This is comfortably our biggest attendance of 2017 (previous best this year was Event 118 the week before with 116) and our biggest for a day short of a whole year - way back to Event 71 on 22 May 2016 (with 145)! It is also our 4th highest ever attendance. Well done to everyone that took part, and to our volunteering team for managing it all. Also, when we consider the number of adults that take part with our juniors, then there were probably in excess of 200 people completing our 2km course. It's fantastic to see so many of you up and active on a Sunday morning!
Tess was our Run Director on Sunday, supported by a fabulous group of volunteers:
Sara BOOTH, Grace BOOTH, Alex BOOTH, Stephanie BOWER, Leyla BROOKE, Rainbow BURDEN - SHARP, Jamie GODWIN, Jake HARRISON, Darrell HARRISON, Tess HICKMAN, Tim HOBBS, Geoff HOLMES, Tracy HYLAND, Lyndsey JONES, Jayne MANLEY, Jude MITCHELL, Wayne MITCHELL, Tony MURRAY, Jayne OGLEY, Lucy QUINN, Ailsa STOREY, Jennifer ULLETT, Lee WAKELIN
As ever, we are hugely grateful to them all for giving up their time to make the event happen.
As we are sure you all know by now, we are always looking for new people to add to our volunteer pool and welcome anyone that would like to volunteer, in order for us to fill our weekly rosters as easily as possible. None of the roles are difficult and we are always available to guide and train anyone knew to volunteering on any of the roles. Please see the future roster page in the volunteer section of our website for roles we need to fill, and let us know via email, Facebook or Twitter if you can help.
Tess handed out a load of milestone wrist bands during the pre-run brief and you can see a host of photos of our proud juniors over on our Facebook page. Remember folks, its a blue half-marathon band after 11 runs, a green marathon band after 22 runs and an orange ultra marathon band after 50 runs. The next milestone is a certificate to mark 100 runs, and we are very pleased to note that we have a handful of juniors within 20 or less of that target now. You can also download a certificate to accompany the 3 milestone wristbands via your parkrun profile. More info here:
After the run brief, it was off to the warmup. Remember - if it's your birthday on or around any Sunday (or #juniorparkrunday as we often call it) then let our warm-up leader or RD know and we will be happy to have you join us to lead the warmup.
And then we were off and going! The stats from Sunday are as follows:
133 juniors completed the course
17 First Timers joined us - 15 completing their first ever junior parkruns, and 2 visitors from Nostell and Graves junior parkruns. Welcome to you all!
35 New PBs were recorded, well done to you all! That pushes our all-time number of PB runs past 2000 (2014 now to be exact).
Unfortunately there were 7 Unknowns in the list. Don't forget you barcodes!
It is great to see the increasing numbers of juniors attending our event, and many families then enjoying the cafe and playground facilities in the park. Hopefully the better weather will see this continue through the summer months.
See you all on Sunday.
PS: Apologies for the lack of a run report last week for Event 118.
