Barrow parkrun – Event number 401 – 20th July 2019

The torrential rain that fell at around 7:30am on Saturday will have coincided with a lot of peoples alarm clocks that had been set for parkrun.. I must confess to really struggling to get out of bed hearing it lashing on my window and I’m sure it put a lot of people off. 137 people ignored the weather, along with 22 volunteers and by the time of the pre-parkrun briefing at the bandstand the weather was a lot better. It wasn’t to last though and just as Run  Director Nick Emerson finished his brief the skies  decided to open once more and pour a steady mist of light drizzle over the course for the next thirty minutes or so.

In other volunteer roles we had eleven year old Katelyn Garnett and 5 year old Harrison Marr who were both loaned cameras by Keith Herbert and they both excelled at the task of being course photographers for the day!

It was a good running day if your surname was McNally, just look at the first three finishers:

1              (Junior) Will McNally       18:26 (New PB)

2              David McNally                   18:34

3              Cameron Bell                     19:13

The first three ladies were:

1              Amy Singleton                   21:44

2              Heather Travis                   22:30

3              Liz McNally                         22:45

Of the 137 people who ran, jogged and walked the course, 12 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 12 different clubs took part.

Milestone runs were celebrated this week by Junior Runner Demi Garnett who celebrated her 10th run, knocking 2 and a half minutes off her PB and at the other end of the scale Karen Ann Maggio-Poyntz on her 350th!

Barrow parkrun started on 24th September 2011. Since then 4,664 participants have completed 51,511 parkruns covering a total distance of 257,555 km, including 8,363 new Personal Bests. A total of 700 individuals have volunteered 7,416 times.

The female record is held by Lizzie BROWNE who recorded a time of 16:24 on 21st January 2012.

The male record is held by Phil WAITE who recorded a time of 15:12 on 3rd October 2015.

The Age Grade course record is also held by Lizzie BROWNE.
