With a bit of a chill in the air, the parkrun weather fairies were kind enough to bring sunshine yet again to Basildon parkrun.
Kalli welcomed 13 first timers (some of who attended our new regular first timers briefing), whilst 8 runners managed to PB. Well done those 8, but why only 8? The course was actually in reverse - yes we did warn you - and it was met with a mix of confusion and excitement, particularly for those that have regularly taken part since we started in April. We don't feel the course reduced the PBs, although it does seem some kind of coincidence. With 83 runners, there was positive feedback on the new Winter course, and the new Finish Funnel was also met with a welcome of 'ooooooohs'. We think it's very clearly defined now with no finish on the grass mistakes (yaaay). It was strange to look at the photos from the other way round though.
Ty Farrer was again first over the line in 18:34, followed closely by young Daniel Harley. Great running guys, leading the way on the new course. I did offer to but I don't think I was taken seriously.
What do you mean - you can find the way without me?
Hayley Pegg unfortunately had a fall but was still first lady over the line for the first time, although it was heard that she wasn't sure whether to get up and carry on, or just stay where she was. I bet she's pleased now, and we hope you are okay Hayley.
We had only only one U11 volunteer needed this morning, and thanks to Cheryl who again ran with George. George accepted he didn't PB on the basis we are now a new course, therefore new PB starts today!
Perfect synchronisation for Cheryl and George
Danielle was seen enjoying the new course and celebrated with a Basildon Bounce!
The true star of the day was the lovely Teddy - he ran a whole lap before he asked for a more comfortable way to get round.
Again, we had fantastic volunteers who weren't phased by the different direction signage and supported our runners on the new course.
Just two of the many fabulous volunteers today
You too could look as lovely as this, if you put your name on the future roster. Kalli put out a plea for future volunteers, whilst I seem to be looking at who I can pick on! Kalli 'encouraged' her nephew, Harvey, to join us in exchange for a bacon sarnie and he did a fabulous job timekeeping. Thanks Harvey!
'Put your head down, don't catch her eye or she'll have you on that roster'
Overheard from the fabulous and funny:
'I like this hill' - Sonia
'I'm having trouble breathing so I'm going because I don't want the kiss of life from Steve (Macdonald).' - Andy. So he paused his Garmin and plans to do two laps next week to finish off the run - not sure it works like that Andy
