Run report 1st June 2019

Written by one of our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers Bethan

The first parkrun of June saw 399 eager runners raring to go in the alternate start/finish area we use for the summer months. The great weather welcomed over 60 first timers and over 50 runners achieved a new personal best- well done! The first recorded male was James Donald with a time of 17.25, and the first female was Natalie Thomas with a time of 21.09. This was Natalie’s first run at the Bath Skyline parkrun so special congratulations to her!

Having run Bath Skyline parkrun twice- maybe walking would better describe it- I was very excited to start my DofE volunteering here and find out about all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. I’ve tried various roles, of which my favourite has been the barcode scanning as I can see the look of sheer relief on the runners’ faces when they realise they can go back to bed or perhaps go for coffee at Combe Grove Manor.
That being said, the somewhat early start was the only thing putting me off volunteering but getting involved in the community and meeting all the other friendly volunteers is always an amazing start to my Saturday- I’ve immensely enjoyed the past 6 months and would highly recommend volunteering at parkrun to anyone who might be thinking about it.
