Beaumont Park junior parkrun is cancelled on 12 July 2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Happy Birthday Beaumont! Event #52

Today marks Beaumont park juniors first birthday, can you believe it!

And what a wet one it was. We were hoping the weather would hold off but no, a few seconds after we started, the heavens opened and my goodness, didn't it rain! We had soggy marshals, parents and children. The rain, however, didnt stop everyone having fun. We had princesses, superheroes, Disney characters, skeletons and even Bananaman! You all looked amazing.

We had a change to the normal route and ran it in reverse. It did confuse a few, who thought we were actually running it backwards haha. Once everyone had finished it appeared it was a very popular route and the 22 PB's confirmed this! Amazing stuff, well done all. Although, it could have been the promise of cake in the band stand after the run.

Our top 3 finishers were:  Jessica Hill - 09:55 (PB), Amber Miller - 10:10 (PB), and Tyler Wilkins - 10:13 (PB).

A massive thank you to our fabulous volunteers who stood out in the downpour, cheering and making lots of noise as the children went past. I hope you have all dried out.

Thank you to all for making our first year so amazing and heres to another fab year.

Hope to see you all again next week

Event #48 – The sun is shining!

What an absolutely beautiful morning it was on Sunday, the sun was shining and the park was looking gorgeous as usual!

We had 40 junior superstars joining us and a full quota of volunteers this week, a big thanks to all of you!
We had 6 first timers, a big welcome to Thomas, Sebastian, Lucien, Zara, Oliver and Joshua, we really hope you join us again.
In first place was Alex Burke with Jake Rhodes in second place with a new PB, our first female was Annie Thorp and in fourth place was Felix Young, someone found normally behind one of the scanners but for one morning we decided to let him run ;)
An incredible quarter of the runners gained PBs this week, well done to Jake, Felix, William, Daniel, Sam, Gilda, Millie, Ezra, Millen and Imaan.
We enjoyed it so much we're going to do it all again next Sunday so hope to see you at the bandstand ready to start at 9am and don't forget it bacon butty day at the cafe (veggie option available!) so we'd love you to join us. See you there!

Event 40 – Breaking the Record

Well what a morning to break the course record!

We welcomed runners and volunteers from a number of other courses today including Tolson, Greenhead and Brighouse and consequently had 55 runners, our second highest at this course, and with 16 first timers.. With near perfect conditions our start line was heaving, everyone was in a great mood, and we got warmed up and ready to go. Off they went through the twists and turns and ups and downs of Beaumont Park, one of the toughest courses around! First timer Ben and Alex stormed ahead and battled together for the finish line. The first 3 finishers were:

1. Ben Scholey 7.36 First timer and broke course record

Event 39

I’m Emma, aged 17 and a student at Huddersfield New College. As part of my Duke of Edinburgh Gold award, I am volunteering at the junior park run. I have been volunteering since November and love it. It’s great to see so many children coming along each week and grow in confidence in their own ability.

It was a privilege to be Run Director this week (supervised by regular RD Abby). The weather conditions were good and 32 runners turned up showing their great commitment. A massive congratulations to the 13 runners who got their personal best this week!

The top finishers were:

Stephen Hogley - 1st place - 10:18
Thomas Sykes - 2nd place - 10:29
Zachary Winston - 3rd place - 11:11

I hope the first timers enjoyed their run and will come back again.

Thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to help this week. We couldn’t run this event without you!

Event 34 – Jack, Fionntan and Dotty

A fabulous morning of Junior parkrun, thank you to all 36 runners, family supporters and volunteers who visited and made it a great event.

It was a close and fast finish between Jack and Fionntan with Dotty not far behind:

Jack Kirby 1st 9.36
Fionntan Bunker 2nd 9.37
Dotty Butler 3rd 9.55

Well done to you!

We had 8 first timers and / or visitors from other parkruns today, coming to try our 'rollercoaster' course. We hope you felt welcome and will come and run with us again.

With great running conditions we had a whopping 13 runners who achieved a PB.

A special thank you to Maisy who volunteered as funnel manager today as she has hurt her arm. Together with our Event Director, Jess, they were a matching pair!

We also opened our little tuck shop, with drinks and snacks, in the bandstand for after the event, and it will be there again next week, so bring your small change.
Proceeds to the Friends of Beaumont Park who work so hard to keep the park looking lovely for us to use.
