07/03/2020 Run report

Hello Beckton Parkrun, a better turn out of 43 runners compared to last weeks 30 no. runners on very wet day. Today was brighter and dry, course is still boggy and slippery in some places. Recommend to keep your trial shoes on.

We mentioned and supported International Women's Day today and a great turn out.
A couple of great milestones, well done on achieving your 50th Parkrun to Chris Chilton and Wajid Qureshi. Superb.

Also great to see young Kayode Aloe wearing his well deserved 100th Parkrun T shirt.

Congrats to our Lindsey and Vicky for the birth of their baby daughter, Summer.

A number of the recently planted crocuses are now in bloom too.
Great running, keep up the good work.

30/11/2019 Event 395 _ Foggy, Tree Planting & Good Gym

Hi Beckton Park Run
A foggy and fresh start with 46 runners.
Well done to some of our regulars achieving some great running milestones and even better wearing your deserved 50 or 100 Parkrun T shirt. Superb effort and wear with pride, keep up the good work.

An existing day for our park, with an amazing organisation Trees for Cities planting approximately 9,000 trees with around 500 volunteers tree planting today. Will be an amazing addition to the existing woodlands and was nice to see loads of people out in the park.

As part of the event today, we were supported by an army of additional volunteers from the Good Gym, that assisted our regular volunteers to marshall the areas that were being set up for the tree planting, to ensure our runners were safe and were not in the way of the tree planters.

The Good Gym are a great organisation that run and and get involved with community projects. Worth checking out. Some of these Good Gym runners are regulars at our parkrun.

We thank everybody that contributed to our Parkrun today, including our friends at Good Gym, with some running the Parkrun and marshalling around the course. Then went over for the tree planting. Thanks for adding to our great park with more trees.

Have acknowledged and volunteer credited as many as possible from Good Gym that were Parkrunners.
So a big thanks to the Good Gym team for their assistance today.
Thanks to Brahama that also came 01st today, Beatrix, Sharon, Dave, Chi, Johnny, Sarah, Simon, Devika, Helen, Chris, Brad, Mary, Alice and anyone else we have missed off.
If have missed any let us know.

Lastly a big thankyou to all of the Beckton Team, including our amazing regular volunteers that marshalled a and carried out other Parkrun duties, welcomed our visitors and carried out a mass running test on a slightly amended course.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Run Report 394 23/11/2019 – An amended course

Hi All
Apologies for late processing of results today.

Also apologies for long note, but is important as there will be some course changes.

A good turn out and some slippery corners.
The route is muddy or covered in leaves in some places, take care with your footing.
Perhaps it is time for the trail shoes and put the fast running shoes away for the winter.

As you have noticed, there are a few corners that have been ploughed by the Parks or Tree Department for the tree planting event on the 30th Nov.

Course amendments
There will be some minor amendments to the course, including cutting the corners off to avoid the trees that will be blocking the route, So with some cutting off the corners, we have added it back on to he 2nd field.

Testing & checking
We have carried out a walking test last week, which is reasonably close and this week we used 4 test runners on the amended course, including one of our team with a rolling measuring wheel and was reasonably close too.

A little bit of tweaking and think we will be there.
We would appreciate more volunteers next week to assist with marshalling the amended course.

Amended course
Next week on the 30th we will all run the amended course and would like some feedback and give us an update from your watch.

We have approached Parkrun HQ to check if we needed to get the amended course verified. So would appreciate your patience over the next couple of weeks.

A warm welcome to our visitors
After the Parkrun there will be tree planting and are all encouraged to assist and support and do your normal job, of welcoming any visitors to our wonderful park.

Happy running

Run report – Beckton parkrun #390 – 26 October 2019

40 parkrunners today at Beckton on a dry but very windy morning, well done to you all.
We shared the park with the local Rotary club who managed to plant 10,000 crocuses while we were out running, and who very kindly shared their refreshments with us. We look forward to seeing the results come the spring!
There were also 7 first timers this morning, including our visitor Rob from Chipping Sodbury parkrun, who kindly wrote the below for us while waiting for the run to start. Thanks Rob!
Have a good weekend everyone and hope to see you next week for my and Vicky's send-off!

Thanks for setting up Beckton parkrun. After you have gone to all the effort of setting up the course, nice and early, the least I can do is write a bit for your run report.

So my wife and I are staying over in Silvertown for a Family History Show at the Excel. She was volunteering today and so I came across for parkrun alone today for my 178th run and 37th different event.

Lovely to meet another tourist heading for Lon-done, but I just like going and meeting people at a parkrun near where we happen to be on a Saturday morning. My home run is Chipping Sodbury, in South Gloucestershire where we now, after nearly 300 events, have over 400 runners on a regular basis. The contrast makes a small event like Beckton a refreshing change and is a nice insight into what the early days of parkrun must have been like.

Many thanks for doing the hard yards week in, week out, to keep Beckton parkrun on the go. And thanks for your lovely, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. True parkrun spirit.

Beckton parkrun #386 – run report 28 Sep 2019

Well done to our 58 parkrunners today at Beckton on a slightly wet and windy morning.

It was good to see a number of visitors to Beckton as well as 3 first time parkrunners, giving us 13 first timers today. We also saw 6 new PBs set, well done to all of you.

Big thanks to all of the volunteers who organised and ran a very smooth event today.

We are now looking for new volunteers, especially to train up on barcode scanning and timing duties - if you are interested please get in touch via the Facebook page, email: becktonoffice@parkrun.com, or speak to one of the volunteers on a Saturday morning.
Remember that without volunteers there is no parkrun!

Thank you to all of you who donated to the MacMillan coffee morning last week, we raised £116 on the day with a few more donations coming in this morning and during the week. Much appreciated for a very good cause.

Have a good weekend and happy running!

21/09/2019 Beckton Parkrun – Cake and Conker !

A good turn out of 58 runners, including 7 no. first timers on a beautiful Beckton morning.

A longer report today, as lots of good things happened.

We had a number of visitors today, welcome to Beckton Parkrun.
Hopefully your run was enjoyable on a relatively flat course and will come back again to join, along with our regulars.

A few PB's today, well done on pushing yourselves.
A warm welcome to some of our returning regulars that we have not seen for a while.

We also took the opportunity today to have a Macmillan Coffee Morning, a week early due to some upcoming hols from some members that enjoy baking for others. Was a nice treat after a great Parkrun with a wonderful table of amazing cakes. Thanks to everybody that made or bought something along.

The biggest thanks goes to the amazing donations that was made by everybody. An amazing £ 116.26 made this morning for a superb cause.
Well done. Thanks everybody. Much appreciated.

On behalf of all of us at Beckton Parkrun on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support, we want say a huge thanks. This is greatly appreciated and will be paid in this week. We may even have another next week when the nation has their Macmillan Coffee Morning.

In a months time we will do the same for Parkrun's partnered charity Alzheimers Research.

We also had some fun after the Parkrun during the coffee morning.
We had our own Conker Championship, with plenty of first timers to a great British autumn tradition and obviously did our H&S Risk Assessment and necessary precautions adhered to.

All the conkers were collected from our park that we run through and spent some time pre drilling each conker. Great fun whilst eating some wonderful hand made cake, all for a great cause of course.

Next week we can run the cake off and maybe collect some more conkers on the way and play again.

Lastly a big thank you to all the Volunteers, the event would not run without you all. We are always looking for more or new volunteers, so us regular volunteers can run too.

Enjoy your week, keep on running.
