Volunteering is Fun!

Hello everybody. Did you see the kids in high vis on Sunday?

I managed to grab them after park run to get a group run report / interview and here is it.

Who are you all and how do you know each other?

Sebastian, Cheyanne,  Sophie, George and Loren and we are all friends

Our grown ups help at parkrun and we have met each other by also helping.

What was good / Bad about todays Run?

  • Everybody was so supportive.
  • It was fit
  • The weather was bad and it was quite chilly
  • I (Loren) loved the sprint finish
  • There were no first timers for the briefing ☹
  • There were a lot of wrist bands to give out
  • There was a nice lot of children (we can have more though)

How have you all helped this morning at Park run?

  • We all helped with the pre-course set up. This includes putting the cones out, putting the signs up, getting the tokens out and just being helpful to get everything ready
  • Giving out the wrist bands
  • First timers briefing (but there wasn’t anybody to talk to)
  • We were speaking to everyone to get the monsters name

Have you all helped before?

  • Yes! Lots of times!

Why do you help?

  • To be helpful
  • Its good fun
  • I like seeing other people and helping then and I enjoy it
  • Because I don’t think the adults can manage it in the time without our help
  • To get my purple volunteer T-Shirt

What is the best volunteer role you have done?

  • Helping with the warm up
  • First timers briefing
  • Cheerleader at the end for the other children coming in (and stealing the megaphone to do this)
  • Naming the Monster (this is a new role and not in other park runs and not an official park run volunteer role)

What would you say to people (runners or grown ups) about volunteering?

  • Get your butts to volunteer!!!
  • Get your parents to volunteer then they don’t slow you down running with you
  • I’m 8, its fun, do it!

What would you say to a person who has never been to park run before

  • It’s fun, everyone is very supporting
  • Keep running and when you do enough you get a wrist band

Tell us about the monster?

  • I (Sebastian) designed it
  • It’s cute
  • It has a pom pom nose
  • It’s fun
  • It’s nice
  • Cheyanne ran with it

Please can you help us find a name for it as we don’t know what it is yet. (have a look on facebook as we have a poll for the name)

Anything else you would like to say?

  • Who will run with the monster next week?

Our youngest park run reporter!!!

Today's junior park run report come from James who is 4.

Today was my 3rd park run and I finished in Position 42. I have now run 6 km!

It was a bit cloudy today but wasn't too cold.

The best bit today was that my auntie ran it with me (and did as she was told!)

If someone has never been to park run before I will tell them its not scary and its really good.

My younger brother comes with me and cheers me on. My auntie volunteers at Bushy Parkrun, she marshalled and it was good fun.

I run with a grownup, I've run with my mummy, daddy, uncle and auntie so far! It's good because I like holding hands with them.

Thank you foreveryone who helps with parkrun.

Thank you for that fantastic report James, I think you are our youngest report writer. I am really pleased you are enjoying running at parkruns. Don't wear all your family out as you are running pretty fast!

We look forward to seeing you again soon (and whoever you bring this time to run with you )

Meet our monster

Please meet our new Bedford Junior friend.

If you joined us today you would have seen "the monster" walking around. We are trying to find a name for it. Now we got some great names today but we need your votes! The list below came from today's runners and volunteers.

This is our top 6. Please can you vote below of your choice or let us know before the run briefing next week and the RD will announce the monsters name.

The choices are.....

  • Parky
  • Bedford Bob
  • Running Ralph
  • Running Rosie
  • Squishy
  • Molly the monster

Congratulations if your name made the list and thanks for all the ideas. Please pop over to our Facebook page to vote.

The Monster went to Costa after the run to help process the results and is now chilling at home! All it needs is a name!

Did you know?

That we have a facebook page? Have a search for Bedford Junior Parkrun or click here

So what do we use the page for? Well a number of things really. On the page you will find posts for run updates, lost property, photos, request for volunteers, the stats write up and probably the most important thing is the Junior run reports!

You will see the Junior report on here, sometimes on their own and sometimes part of the main write up. Where ever they are its really nice to see the comment and congratulations the writer gets from other (Thank you people who post and comment)

Our latest post is a request for volunteers (well it is Tuesday) and also a little bit of a poll for volunteers - what role do you enjoy the most and why?

Why don't you pop over and have a look / comment?

So if you have just stumbled across this news post we hope to see you on our page soon and, more importantly, we hope to see you one Sunday for Junior Parkrun at Jubilee park!

My Marathon Wristband

Todays Junior run report comes from Matthew.

Now Matthew is a regular runner at Park run, he has completed 23 runs in total between us at Bedford Juniors and also with Milton Keynes junior parkrun and today he very kindly volunteered to do the junior write up.

I come to parkrun with my sister Lucy. Today I finished in 15th place. It was a bit windy and it made me run slower. The best thing about today's run was that it wasn't snowing.

And I got a wristband. The Marathon wristband that i got today was bright yellow.

If someone has never been to parkrun before I would tell them that it's fun. The people are friendly and after the run you feel good.

I think I have maybe run about 48km. I havent done an adults parkrun yet!

My mum and dad have both volunteered. They were marshals and this time mum did barcodes. She says it was fun cheering everyone on.

I don't run with a grownup which is good because my dad used to get in my way!!!

Thank you so much for this excellent write up Matthew and congratulations on your marathon wrist band. We look forward to giving you your ultra later this year. We hope to see you, your mum and dad and of course your sister Lucy soon.
