Bedford parkrun #445 – 01/02/2020

Bedford parkrun Event #445 - Saturday 1st Febrary 2020

An exciting Bedford parkrun today being not only my first, first timers briefing volunteering role and my first ever run report but also mine and Julia's 250th parkrun.

Arriving early at Bedford (and finding a parking space straight away!) myself, Julia (30 minute pacer) and Shae (official photographer) made our way in the sunshine to the bandstand to meet run director Duncan and the rest of the team. There is a great core team at Bedford with some amazing volunteers there week in week out so the set-up was completed very quickly.

First timers briefing completed for several new parkrunners and tourists from places such as the home of parkrun Bushy, and as far afield as Jersey we enjoyed the round of applause for our 250th milestone shout out then made our way to the start.

It’s a busy start at Bedford so being in a sensible place according to your finishing time is necessary. With Julia pacing at 30 minutes we positioned ourselves not far from the front, not our usual start place but got away safely with the rest of the large 480 runner field.

Bedford is a two and a half lap course round the park and lake with a slight incline on one side which means lots of support from volunteers and non-runners (and those that finish quickly) and with today’s brilliant running conditions everyone got home safely and we finished our 250th parkrun together with pacer Julia running a perfectly timed 30 minute pace of 29:56.

I think I created a new volunteering role today running with my volunteers hi-viz on. I’m calling it “Course Safety Runner” and today's duties included pointing out a couple of loose shoe laces, removing a discarded sleeping bag that had blown into the middle of the course,IMG_0901 and then once finished congratulating runners as they made their way down the finish funnel.

Once everyone was home we enjoyed a nice glass of bubbly provided by our friends Suzan (546 parkruns!) and husband Dom whilst chatting to fellow runners and volunteers.

Huge thanks to everyone at Bedford, especially Run Director Duncan for volunteering me to write this report.

See you again soon
(hopefully in a shiny new green parkrun shirt)
