Belton House Parkrun
Event number 174
5th October 2019
The 174rd Belton parkrun was a very special day as it was parkrun’s 15th birthday. Fifteen years in which it has changed from being an exclusive event enjoyed by a small number of athletes, to an institution making a real difference to people from all walks of life from around the world! Every year, as more and more people realise that parkrun is for them, the average times get slower and slower and the number of people whose lives are transformed get bigger and bigger. So, a massive Happy Birthday to the wonderful phenomenon which is parkrun!
344 of us celebrated parkrun’s birthday by walking, jogging or running around the grounds of Belton House which were beautiful on this fine autumn morning with a fine dew catching the golden light and even a balloon taking off over the park as we puffed and panted our way around. For 13 people it was their first ever parkrun; I wonder how many of them will still be joining us at parkruns in 15 years’ time? For another 34 people it was their first trip to Belton parkrun; I hope that they were impressed as we are very proud of our home parkrun and want visitors to take good memories away with them.
An incredible 74 (SEVENTY FOUR!) people celebrated parkrun’s birthday by achieving a new PB; a massive well done to them. One of those achieving a PB was Nathan Martin who now has the right to wear a white t-shirt as today was also his tenth parkrun. Well done Nathan. Congratulations are also due to the three people who earned their black 100 t-shirts; they are Barbara Smith, Harry Ratcliffe and Matthew Ratcliffe. Harry and Matthew also decided to mark the occasion by volunteering as tail walkers.
Talking of volunteering, as usual there were a dedicated band of Hi-Viz heroes making sure that all of this could happen. This week massive thanks are due to P ABEY, Jayne BAVIN, Maria CARLEY, Alan CARLEY, David CROMBIE, Lesley DIX, Travis FEATHERSTONE, Ruth FEATHERSTONE, Harry HULSE, Ellis JACKSON, Grace JOHNSTON, Laura KETTLE, Claire LANE, Russell MAKSYMIW, Grace MARSHALL, Olivia MARSHALL, Kate MARSHALL, Fraser MARSHALL, Emily RATCLIFFE, Matthew RATCLIFFE, Harry RATCLIFFE, Amelia SHAW, Harry WAKERLEY, Jane WINTER, Roger WORSTER and Elaine WORSTER. We really couldn’t run this wonderful event without your support and are incredibly grateful for everything that you do.
Today’s highest age grading went to Jonathon Roberts with a creditable 86.21%. The first finisher was William Parkin who came home in a very nifty 16:29 which was also a new PB for him. First female finisher was Becky Roberts with a time of 18:27. Well done to all of you; what a fabulous way to celebrate parkrun’s 15th birthday celebrations.
