Event 41 – Celebrating International Women’s Day with a Tough Mudder! – 7 March 2020

parkruns everywhere were celebrating International Women's Day this weekend, encouraging women to participate in parkrun by running or volunteering. Our special selfie board was popular....

...although some of the men couldn't resist getting in on the action:

We may be a fairly small parkrun just now, due to the quite challenging conditions underfoot, but what we lack in quantity, we make up in quality. 20 fabulous volunteers (14 of them women) helped out on a chilly morning, with the rain just about holding off. Massive thanks to:

A fine selection of today's volunteers.

Due to a tree that is still at risk of falling across the path by our usual finish area in the woods, for the third week running, we were on our alternative course. This is basically the same route but starting in what is usually the second field, and run in the reverse (clockwise) direction. This week the mud was just as muddy, the wet bits just as squelchy, and the dry bits non-existent. One participant told us that he had done tough mudders that were easier. However, Co- Event Director Marcus is used to our course, and appears to have skipped through it all...or is he simply jumping for joy?

Local club, Bromley Veterans AC (BVAC), had a strong showing at this week's event, with the first 5 finishers being either first or second claim members to the club, 13 of the volunteers also belonging to the club and both first lady and first man - James Tinkler and Sarah Regan being club members. We are especially pleased for them as both are regular volunteers at Bethlem, Sarah also being one of our Run Directors, and for both it was their first time for being first!

Keeping the Tail Walkers company was Anwen Davies, who was completing the Lon-Done Challenge - that is, running/walking at all the parkruns within the M25. Well done Anwen and hope you enjoyed your visit!

Jackie Montgomery just ahead of Siobhan McElhinney - Siobahn provided today's only PB!

We are as ever grateful to the hospital staff for volunteering by opening the cafe in the Community Centre, and it is a great place to meet, chat and compare muddy trainers. Thanks to Mary Yates for providing the hot drinks and quite delicious fondant fancies this week!

Until next week .....
