It started out damp with a bit of drizzle in the air, but the main feature of today's parkrun was the wind, especially on the far side of the first (east) field. What a contrast to last week's scorcher. Fortunately Friday's rain hadn't affected the ground too much and there were no puddles or muddy patches to negotiate.
Once again we had many visitors, with 159 out of the 216 total (73%) being course First Timers, 8 of these were brand new to parkrun (welcome to the family!). We hosted plenty of tourists, with quite a few attempting to complete the parkrun Lon-done challenge. The results show some remarkable parkrun pedigree, with 6 of today's runners having each completed over 400 runs - two of these, Becky Thurtell and Roy Reeder, both ran their 499th parkrun today. In the 3 runs we have had so far, we have already seen 527 different people participate. I'd love to know, is some kind of record for a new parkrun?!
Some people hadn't travelled quite so far, and we also welcomed many of our Bromley and Beckenham Place friends. I note some pleasing times (I try to hide my stat-ish side, but it will out...!), with a 22.22 for the 3rd week in a row - this week for the above named Roy. We also saw a 27.27 (Harry Petty), 33.33 (Karen Mercer) and a 34.34 (Justine Pope). Bromley regulars John Isaacs and Becky Sowter were the only participants with spot on times today - 27.00 and 32.00 respectively.
32 of the people who came back today enjoyed a PB - maybe the conditions today were more suited to faster running?!
Every week parkrun HQ gives us a random stat klaxon. Mine this week is for the parkrunners named Andrew or Andy - just over 5% (11) of today's runners go by this name, making it by far the most popular name today.
The cafe at the Community Centre was buzzing afterwards and we thank everyone who came along. The cafe is also run by volunteers - we have a parkrun volunteer each week, alongside a regular hospital volunteer - and raises valuable additional funds for the benefit of the hospital's service users. We hope anyone visiting today found the new signage to the cafe useful - we do realise that it is a large site and can be confusing for a first time visitor!
Hope that you enjoyed your run, jog or walk today and that we see you again soon!
