Event #3 It’s all about the milestones this week

What a morning! The weather was shocking, the storm risk assessment was checked and all marshals were briefed about what to do should we experience thunder and lightning. When I say all marshals thatis exactly what I mean, all of them, they all showed up Saturday morning without exception. The worry when the weather is as bad as it was is that no one will show up but to be fair we all know that parkrunners are a hardy lot, especially the Yorkshire ones with their ‘it’ll be reet’ attitude and they really didn’t disappoint, all 226 of them! This made our volunteers day, they knew it was worth their while putting the event together, despite the weather.

Paul Wilson
So, what are these milestones you speak of I hear you cry, well the first one of the day must go to Paul Wilson who chose to complete his 300th parkrun with us at Beverley. What a fantastic achievement, well done to Paul. It was Paul’s first time at our event, and we hope to welcome him back again soon.
Xavier completed his first Beverley parkrun with an amazing sprint finish. I think you will all agree his fab smile is what it is all about.

Jim and JonJon Kirk, pictured with Jim Barrett, completed his first ever 5k, ever ever! Not just his first parkrun but his first ever 5k ever! Fantastic achievement for Jon in his couch to 5k journey. Welcome to the parkrun family Jon. Jim made a return to parkrun after a 6 year hiatus, running with Jon has given him a renewed interested in getting fit again. Both looked right chuffed when their results texts came through in The Woolpack after the event. A huge well done must go to the results processing volunteers for such speedy work. There was a point in the pub that everyone was looking at their phones.

Other milestones include:

Nick OLDFIELD who recorded his 50th parkrun with his first time at BWpr

Lauren MEGSON recorded her 10th parkrun as did Josh HENDERSON with his first visit to Beverley.

Finlay ADDINALL certainly had his own milestone in his first ever parkrun finishing in a super 9th position, more amazingly is that Finlay is in the JM10 age group!

For the 2nd week in a row we had a member of the prestigious 500 club join us, Iain Hall from North Yorkshire Moors Athletic club joined us for his 507th parkrun. Thanks for visiting Iain, we hope to welcome you again.

102 of our runners and walkers this week were first timers to the event and of those 24 were brand new to parkrun. Of the remaining 78 there were 72 PB’s on the course, it is worth noting that whilst we are only on event 3 a PB in the weather conditions was a great result for all.

The ladies course record has been broken already with Ffion HARRIS recording a time of 21:49.

Well done to all that met a milestone this week, it doesn’t matter how big or small, it is about getting out there and getting on with it.

High Vis Heroes

Have you considered volunteering but have been put off because you wouldn’t get your run in too? There are many volunteer jobs, before and after the event that allow you to still run or you could even look to be the tail walker, this week’s tail walkers even had to run! However, it is worth noting that there are many volunteering opportunities which IMG_9540mean you still get your exercise and potentially 5k in anyway. I have not run our event yet however at event 1 I did 6k, event 2 I did 5k and event 3 I also did 5k. Food for thought for those thinking volunteering might actually be an easy job! You also get a volunteer credit too.

The event was made possible by 46 High Vis heroes, a big high 5 to all:

Jorunn JONSDOTTIR • Louise BARRETT • Christine WHITEHOUSE • Kay FARROW • Sylvia RADFORD • Martyn BROUGHTON • Paula NICHOLLS • Amanda BARTON • Nick FRERE • Lynne STABLER • Charlotte DUNSTER-PAGE • Ivor ROBERTS • Martin GREENSILL • Andy MOORE • Cath O'CONNOR • Patrick MARSHALL • Amy CARLISLE • Jennifer WELLOCK • Alison NICHOLSON • Simon SHIELS • Chrissie SHIELS • Fiona OAKES • Alex ABEL • Stuart OLIVER • Allison ENGLISH • John PARISH • Anushka MCCANN • Cindy MCANDREW • Melissa MALTON • Matt SEYMOUR • Shahid SEEDAT • Joshua SMITH • Lauren TURNER • Annie GRAHAM • Charlie ROBINSON • Kyle ABEL • Tricia DONLON • Chris GIBSON • Helen HEATON • John NICHOLLS • Brian CRESSEY • Nicola DUFFIELD • Gillian ROBINSON • Gina-Marie PECKITT • Jo WHITTLE

House keeping notes
We are missing a finish token, please remember to hand you tokens back in. If you remember and/or the volunteer remembers then we should be ok for next week. This week also saw a damp event, the paper barcodes did not fair well in the rain – I would recommend the bracelets, but there are other options. Check them out, the investment is worth it to avoid missing your results and even better many contain your ‘ICE’ details.

Last but not least, Lucy Maris. Pop the kettle on, grab a slice of cake and read her comprehensive review of Beverley Westwood parkrun. It is a super entertaining report including personal anecdotes, a bit of history and lots of photos. I had the good fortune to meet Lucy on Saturday (I am the one taking a photo of her taking a photo of me), she is a truly warm, funny human being and I am sure we will see her again in Beverley.

That’s all for now

Lot of BWp love

PS: You are a cheeky monkey; you know who you are!!
