Well how about that, in 2017 we hosted the first ever Christmas Billericay parkrun (number 27) to which 132 people received a barcode from Santa, a year later at event number 79, the second Billericay parkrun saw 261 (almost double!) overjoyed runners, walkers and joggers take to Lake Meadows for a Christmas day parkrun, this year, at event 131, 294 (not quite double...) of you pounded the paths earning that turkey and Christmas pudding for the forthcoming day of over indulgence and gift sharing - we really hope you loved every minute of it!
And for those of you who turned up, from near and far (Finland!) we hope you enjoyed this years Christmas treat, instead of the reverse course, which is entirely due to the recent weather which saw of making the sad but ever so necessary decision to cancel last weekend - we might have to use this course for a few more weeks yet, no longer than necessary but we do need to do our part to allow the park to recover from the recent deluge. In the interim, if 5 laps aren't your thing, why not volunteer? We love volunteers and thanking them is an unforgettable part of the weekly briefing (editors note: unlike pacers...) so have a look at the future roster and sign up by dropping us an email or jotting down on the board on the day - no jobs is difficult or without training and without volunteers our event just simply could not take place - what have you got to lose?
And so, from the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future (I'll let you decide who's who below!) we look very quickly to the next event on Saturday which will in turn very quickly look to the new years day event where you can complete a rare double (Chelmsford, South Woodham Ferrers or Hockley woods are both on at 10:30)! But the most immediate will see Maggie the 30 minute pacing extraordinaire in the hot seat for the revised route - we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
Please check our Volunteer Roster to see if you are able to help out at anytime, there are plenty of roles available to do and all are rewarding and great fun. If you want to volunteer, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
As well as checking on this site regularly for the latest information and updates, don't forget you can also find us on Facebook.
Why not trade up your paper barcode to some of those snazzy plastic barcodes and wristbands? You can get them at the parkrun barcode website and never worry about soggy paper ones again! ICE details can also be printed on them as well.
