Saturday 28th December was our last parkrun of 2019. A foggy but dry morning, 253 of you came and ran, jogged and walked the course.
Due to the continuing muddy conditions, we were again on the 5 lap path course and we made some enhancements to the start process including increasing the number of arrows marking the route to the finish. Many thanks to Andy Smith for making our 28 start position, and Dave Sweet for all the new signs.
That just left a slightly slippy finish from the path onto the grass into the finish funnel, but fortunately marshal Shane White was on hand to warn the runners.
Despite the 5 hills, we managed to entice 24 first timers to join us, who were treated to a First Timers Briefing by David Hayday, our Event Director. Indeed, this was also the Saturday that David finally achieved his 100 milestone. This would have been reached earlier, had David not selflessly stepped in so often to volunteer to ensure Billericay parkrun operates so smoothly.
Both Catherine Sunderland, formerly of the core team, and Paul Sillence were behind the camera this week and provided great shots despite the fog !
Below is a pick of the many fabulous photos from this week's event:
As usual we had a bumper crop of volunteers to help with the smooth running of the event. What is particularly nice is that so many of you keep an eye on the roster and come forward the day or evening before the event if there are still gaps to be filled. Many thanks to you all !
This is the final parkrun report of the year and the final parkrun report of the decade. The first Billericay parkrun started back on 24th June 2017, and since then, has established itself as part of the Billericay community as demonstrated by the number of regular attendees, runners and volunteers, across the age categories and genders. Throughout 2019 we have collectively shared many achievements, celebrations and memories. So many of you have reached your 50th milestone this year that I could not possibly name you all and now that we have completed 132 events at Billericay, it was no surprise that this was the year our 100 milestones started appearing from our regular runners. Additionally the 25 volunteering milestones have been coming thick and fast. Since Billericay parkrun started in 2017 - a total of 470 individuals have volunteered 3,788 times - truly impressive !
Have a great New Year, and Rachel Varnam will be your Run Director on New Year’s Day to take us all into 2020 ….
Please check our Volunteer Roster to see if you are able to help out at anytime, there are plenty of roles available to do and all are rewarding and great fun. If you want to volunteer, email us at email@example.com

Why not trade up your paper barcode to some of those snazzy plastic barcodes and wristbands? You can get them at the parkrun barcode website and never worry about soggy paper ones again! ICE details can also be printed on them as well.
