It is with great sadness that we have to announce that next week will be our last parkrun at Bodelwyddan Castle, the castle is closing at the end of the month and therefore we are unable to continue.

We would like to pass on our hearfelt thanks to the staff at the castle who have enabled us to continue over the last few months whilst they have been uncertain about what is happening.

We have got a few ideas about potential sites to move to but it will take a couple of months to get sorted so please bare with us, we can't guarantee a hill though!

Thank you to all our volunteers and parkrunners for their support, and we have made lots of friends over the months.

Next week we hope you will join us for cake and we will be back as soon as we can.

All the best Eva, Sarah and Dave.

Guest review Bod Castle #20

Bodelwyddan Castle parkun #20 (part 3)

So after the shenanigans of the past couple of weeks Bodelwyddan parkrun number twenty got off to a flying start this weekend, with no snow, ice or winds whatsoever, no drainage problems on site, and instead a lovely warm February morning – who knew such a thing was possible!

The waffly bit..

I’d first intended to come across to Bodelwyddan two weeks back but ended up diverting to Crosby instead as snow cancelled play at the first outing - Having set off from Pontefract this morning fairly early for this one we had an easy journey across – still being slightly paranoid about cancellations, we ended up arriving a tad early (just in case!).

This gave us chance to have a wander round the site and take it all in:

Flattish course, mainly grass - nope, you’ve been listening to the wrong people..

‘Challenging’ hill up to the wooded section (twice) Most definitely - check!

Really enjoyed the run this morning - you’ve a lovely parkrun community here, Amazing surroundings, great views, and I’ll even forgive the pain of getting back up that hill for the second time for a finish funnel that looks like this..

The Statty Bit:

A massive congratulations to ten people who got to run parkrun for the first time ever! Robert WRIGHT,Lorna BRENNAN, Natasha DYCHE, Robert GREEN, Heather POWELL, Eiry READ, Elfryn Wyn JONES, Elin LUCKOCK, Yvonne HUNTER & Danielle HEWITT! I’m sure they’ll be back, especially if you keep the parkrun weather fairy happy.

Our First Finisher Bryn WOODALL of Colwyn Bay AAC came through in a superfast 18:06, not only breaking his own PB for the course by over a minute, but also recording the second fastest time since the course record was set at the first event!

The First Female Finisher this morning was Bethan DOWSETT at 20:57 in third position, again setting a course PB and taking nearly 30-seconds off her last run here.

Quite some going here – with both Bryn and Bethan competing in the 15-17 age group – awesome work guys!

Visitors from far and wide this morning – Croydon, South Africa, and West Yorkshire* massively representing today, with runners from Holmfirth Harriers & Hyde Park Harriers** from Leeds making up more than 12% of the field!

We had total of 109 runners at the event of which a massive 34 of you set new Course PB’s today! So congratulations to: (deep breath): Bryn WOODALL, Joshua CEREFICE,
Bethan DOWSETT, Rob JACKSON, Tom BRERETON, Dean BINNS, Robin GREENLAND, Richard OWENS, Alan WEBSTER, Elen BAUGH, Helen ASHWORTH, John RAE, Michael OWEN, Simon PARKER, Joe SHELLEY, Rosemary ROGERS, David HALL, Gwenan JOHNSON, Elspeth FERGUSSON, Jonathan DAVIES, Louise PHILLIPS, Connor BOWERS, Mark BOWERS, Emily HARMAN, Christine PLANT, Laura CAMPBELL, Julie DAVIES, David THOMAS, Helen WILLIAMS, Richard WILLIAMS, Lisa GRAY, Gareth THOMAS, Fiona MARSTON, Abi HEWITT,

Welcome to our parkrun partners!

This weekend saw the start of our new partnership with Ysbyty Glan Clwyd to promote activity and also to build on the social side of running which is very much the ethos of parkrun and Run Wales. We were really pleased to be asked to partner with the hospital to encourage visitors and staff to come along and walk, jog or run with us.

As always our amazing volunteers welcomed all the participants and made them feel part of the family from the outset. We hope to get some running groups started to build on the link so expect to see more people enjoying the fantastic opportunity that parkrun gives.

It certainly was a great morning right from the double rainbow at the start but it was a day for firsts, most notably the female course record was broken by Gemma Moore who recorded a time of 20:35! Well done Gemma.

There were many first timers, not only to our event but first ever parkrun so well done to Paul Fleming, Alfie Hughes, Tom Rettie, Geraint Parry, Reggie Park, Johnathon Davies, Colin Park, Lorraine Gray, Ellie Hughes, Nicola Roberts, Laura Campbell, Abbie Lilly, Louise Phillips, Julie Davies, Jamie Johnson - welcome to the parkrun family!

There were a lot of pb's too - see that hill makes you stronger :-)

But importantly well done to everyone for coming, it's great to be able to get to know people's names and see such a difference in many of you over the weeks.

Don't forget it's our Xmas special on 15th so make sure your dress up (including volunteers), donations of mince pies, treats etc most welcome.

What a beautiful day it was at Bodelwyddan this weekend, another great turn out and welcome to some new volunteers we appreciate your help and not forgetting our regulars too.

It really is amazing to see how people progress over the weeks, special mention to the individuals from a local GP surgery who are achieving new pb's and are so supportive, if you would like help with a staff running group during the week let Eva know. Also well done to the many first timers to parkrun, welcome - we hope you'll continue your journey.

3 – That’s the magic number

It was Bodelwyddan parkrun #13 on 17th November, what could go wrong? Well actually only a small hiccup but it one of three things that stood out this weekend.

1) Many thanks to our trainee Run Directors Sarah and David who helped to set out the course, it was a good thing they were there as went doing our course check and set up we found that the back boundary wall was down and a large area fenced off. After some discussion and checking of alternative routes we had to divert back along the path instead of going through gate 2, many apologies that the course would have been a little short and this will be remeasured before Saturday to ensure we have an alternative route.

2) There was a fantastic atmosphere this weekend and so many people staying to encourage everyone through to the end, great to see so many people from Denbigh Harriers, Abergele Harriers and Chorlton Runners amongst many clubs. We also had visitors from afar a field as Cornwall!

3) We popped up to the cafe after the run so Sarah and David could upload the results and ensure the volunteers got their thank you email, we were a bit stunned and really appreciate the very kind gesture that some of our parkrunners had paid for our drinks. Thank you so much it made our day!

This week 135 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 79 were first timers and 44 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 15 volunteers:

Finding our feet!

It's amazing that we've already done 3 events after what seemed like a lifetime waiting for everything to be ready, huge thanks firstly to everyone who has helped with the organisation of the event including staff from Bodelwyddan Castle, our parkrun ambassador Rob, Prestatyn Running Club, all the people that donated money so we could buy a defib, Rhyl Runners and of course all the volunteers that give up their time so the event can go ahead.

The first 3 events have been fantastic, as I walk the route early in the morning setting out the signs (with my family helping) it's great to look over the North Wales coast and spot the deer in the woods.

We are very lucky to be able to use the grounds but please can everyone share that no dogs are allowed on the course as this is Castle and Hotel requirements and also to protect the livestock and animals on the course. I don't like turning people away, but I will to ensure the event can keep running, thanks for your understanding.

It was pointed out to me yesterday that the first finishers from the 3 events are a stats dream, 17:17 for event 1, 19:19 for event 2 and 18:18 for event 3!

Thanks everyone for running, perfect preparation for Cross Country!

The male record is held by Jack PICKETT who recorded a time of 17:17 on 18th August 2018 (event number 1).
The female record is held by Holly ROBERTS who recorded a time of 20:52 on 1st September 2018 (event number 3).

Bodelwyddan Castle parkrun started on 18th August 2018. Since then 407 participants have completed 524 parkruns covering a total distance of 2,620 km, including 72 new Personal Bests.
