Sweatsop Prize: January 2014

The Sweatshop prize winner for January 2014 is ....

EMMA TURNER !!

Emma has been running at the park since September 2011. On her first few runs Emma wasn't far from being the last across the line. But parkrun isn't about winning and I'm sure that the achievement was just in finishing the distance - think back to your first run when the 5k seemed a long, long way as you started back up the hill for the second lap. Running rewards patient effort and as the weeks have gone by Emma has improved has recorded a line of PBs and is now within sight of Chris Hammerton's 30 minute pacing group. Emma was shortlisted last month and since then she's improved by another 30 seconds and takes this month's prize for her effort and achievements.

parkrun is for runners of all abilities and we like to recognise the achievements of those at the front, back and middle of the field ... and everyone in between. This month as the paths became more muddy, slippery and the rain lashed down it got a bit harder to post improvements. But nonetheless several runners stood out and we particularly noticed the achievements of Samuel Brown, Rupert Brereton, Mark Grundy and Vincent Townley. A special mention for a couple of past winners Josh Lister and Simon Smith who are both running really well.

Congratulations to Emma who wins a new pair of running shoes fitted by our friends at Sweatshop. We hope the new shoes will inspire her to that sub 30 minute time and to enjoy her running in the park and beyond. Our nearest Sweatshop stores are Hyde and Arndale Centre - http://www.sweatshop.co.uk/storefinder.cfm. Look out for an email with your prize certificate!

Sweatshop are a major sponsor of the parkrun organisation and every month generously provide this prize for a runner of any standard who has performed well in the month and shown overall improvement and commitment to the parkrun. Since April 2008, Sweatshop has provided over 70 pairs of running shoes to parkrunners at Bramhall alone! Many thanks to Sweatshop owner Hugh Brasher and his team for their continued support of our work in grassroots athletics.
