Age Grade records tumble

Bramley parkrun #51

Maybe it was the draw of the cake table or the encouragement of the volunteers. Run number 51 saw three runners exceed the previous Age grade records for Bramley on Saturday.

Peter Covey (VM 75-79), Bingley Harriers, 82.58% for the time 23.21 (37th Overall)

Flora Skidmore (VW 55-59), Dewsbury RR, 81.68% for the time 22.28 (28th Overall)

Madeline Stansfield (VW 60-64), Dewsbury RR, 81.22% for the time 24.33 (51st Overall)

The cake had been provided by local running club Pudsey Pacers who had been given the opportunity to takeover this week at Bramley, to promote the club and their upcoming 10 k on Sunday 19th June. They meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at Pudsey Leisure Centre at 6.45 with all abilities catered for. For many members, it was their first taste of parkrun and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the nice relaxed family atmosphere the event brings.

Also perhaps drawn by the confectionery were those who recorded one of the 36 PBs and the 52 attempting four times up the Flat Upwards Section for the 1st time.

One recording a PB was local firefighter Michael Vargas, being 1st across the line for the 3rd time, finishing in 18.12, closely followed by 1st timer Martin Peck from Robertown Runners, 18.23, and third placed was LBT’s Robert Cumming in 18.32.

For the ladies, Emma Brigginshaw produced a PB to be first across the line for the second time in 22.21. Second was Flora Skidmore, Dewsbury RR, 22.28 and third was visiting runner Carly Parkin from Buxton & District in 22.54.
Evie Martin (JW10) notched up her 10th while St Theresa’s Wanda Macdonald joined the 50 runs group. Meanwhile, Sam Broome, a frequent attender at Bromley parkrun this last couple of months, hopped over to Woodhouse Moor to completer her 50th.

The presence of so many Dewsbury Road Runners was due to their practice of visiting a new parkrun on the first weekend of every month, and this was Bramley’s turn. There were a good many runners from clubs a little further afield, including Buxton, Oldham and London.
