We know you all love parkrun so much that we couldn’t let you miss out on extra events! So, once again we will be holding a parkrun on Christmas Day with the usual start time of 9am and also New Years Day with the later start time of 10.30am. It’s never too early to get your name on the volunteer roster so please let us know if you can help out on either of these days.
Start the year with a New Year's Day Double.
Victoria @ 9:00
Braunstone @ 10:30
Tomorrow's Christmas parkrun is at the normal parkrun start time of 9am
Super proud mummy moment this week as my 6 year old (yes she’s only 6!!) took on her 10th parkrun. It was a lovely morning, although a tad warm for the fancy dress choice she made for me!
Amongst the 328 runners that turned out it was lovely to see my family there again (Team Tonks) just two weeks after the lovely tribute for my Dad. My 11 year old niece, Olivia Tonks, bagged herself a super PB (another proud moment). But, it’s not all about my family!! There was an amazing 31 of you ran your fastest ever times so well done to you all. I also have to give a special shout out to West End runner, Mark Thompson who has clocked up an amazing 200 parkruns this week!! Well done Mark.
And let’s not forget our wonderful volunteers. They all did an outstanding job as usual and we’re all very grateful to them for giving up their run to help out. If anyone would like to volunteer in the future then please contact us via our facebook page or email us at email@example.com
Each month Braunstone parkrun have the chance to nominate someone they feel have made a valuable contribution for a Sweatshop prize. This is a voucher for a pair of trainers from one of their stores. This month the prize was awarded to Dean Hassel. Dean has volunteered on a number of occasions and is a valued member of the ‘parkrun family’. Many thanks Dean and happy shopping
And finally, on a personal note, I would just like to thank all those that joined in with Dads tribute run a couple of weeks ago. As difficult as it was, it was lovely morning and we’ve all been blown away by all the messages, cards, hugs and condolences we’ve received. It just goes to show how amazing my dad really was.
Keith Tonks, very sadly missed by us all

What another fabulous morning for a parkrun!! Although it was a little breezy, 364 of you made the effort and started your day the best way we know. The ever growing ‘parkrun family’ is amazing!! There’s a whole range of abilities and everyone, although some may not realise at the time, have a wonderful time. Every one of you deserve a big pat on the back and even though I’m about to single a few people out, it doesn’t mean the rest of you are forgotten, you’re all amazing
We had 54 of you running PB’s this morning. One of which was my 6 year old, Evie, who ran it in 40.11 today. Very proud Mummy moment She has now ran 8 times at Braunstone and is very keen to get her junior ‘10’ t-shirt, I think that’s the only reason she comes!! Still, it beats sitting on the iPad all morning! Another junior runner to get a personal best is Charnwood AC runner Lexie Mcloughlin who not only ran a fab PB time of 20.53, she was also 1st female across the line! Brilliant!! Well done girls There were 30 ‘newbies’ to Braunstone today. The youngest being Desford Flyer, Joe Matthews just 8 years old. He ran in a fabulous time of 23.23, beating his dad Mike by just 1 second My final mention goes to Megan Goulter purely for her sheer determination! Despite falling and twisting her ankle she battled on and crossed the finish line, hope you’re ok and well done. A massive well done to EVERYONE.
Evie Wright running her way to a PB
If anyone is looking for a new challenge/goal then why not sign up for the Lutterworth Charity 5 Mile Fun Run. It’s a lovely event in aid of Alzheimers Society, on Sunday 2nd August. That’s plenty of time to get the training in For more info and to enter please go to www.LutterworthCharity5milefunrun.org.uk
Final shout out goes to all the wonderful volunteers that made parkrun happen this morning. We should all know by now that without the help of such fabulous people like these then there would be no parkrun!! THANK YOU!! If anyone would like to volunteer in the future then please let us know via our Facebook page or by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org
See you next week and DFYB!!!! (Don’t Forget Your Barcode)

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day, I’ve got a wonderful feeling, there’s loads going to turn up today!!! And there certainly was, 368 of you infact!!! And the sunshine must have put a spring in your step as a whopping 70 runners got themselves a PB, well done guys, totes amaze!! It was lovely to see we had 37 ‘newbies’ at Braunstone. Hope you all enjoyed it and are eager to come back next week.
Paul Bradshaw bagging his PB
This week we congratulate Paul Bentley on reaching his 100th parkrun milestone. Well done Paul
There were some super speedy runners out there this week!! First to finish was Charnwood AC runner Pete Swain in an amazing 16.30. He was followed by Chris Jordan of Leicester Coritanians who bagged a PB time of 17.09 then first timer David Evans from Serpentine RC in a time of 17.24. The ladies were lead home by the juniors this week. Wreake runner Sophie Thorpe ran a PB time of 20.23 closely followed by team mate Destiny Nicolson in 20.38. Leicester Coritanian junior Grace Smith made her parkrun debut by bagging 3rd place in 20.53. Well done to you all, and everyone who ran.
We had a few ‘unknown’ runners again this week. Please remember to bring your barcodes. It seems a shame to put the effort in to run and not have an official time to show for it. You also get a step nearer to owning one of parkruns fabulous milestone t-shirts
And last, but by no means least, a massive THANK YOU to this weeks volunteers, without whom this free event wouldn’t happen!! You’re all fabulous and very much appreciated. If anyone would like to help out in future then please let us know via our facebook page or email us at email@example.com
See you all next week and DFTB!!!!

Well, what a fabulous morning for a run. 319 of you turned out for it today which is brilliant. Well done to you all. We had 31 of you bagging a PB and 33 ‘newbies’ to Braunstone, welcome to you and I hope you enjoyed it! A special ‘shout out’ to Felicity Wheeler and Denise Muddimer, who are our latest parkrunners to join the 50 club. Well done ladies :) We unfortunately had quite a few ‘unknown’ runners recorded again this week. Please try to remember your barcodes as it’s seems a shame to put all that effort in and not get recognized for it ‘NO BARCODE NO TIME’.
I’d like to say a big thank you to all the fabulous volunteers this morning. You did a cracking job and it’s very much apprecated by us all at parkrun. If anyone would like to volunteer in future weeks then please let us know via our facebook page or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org Thanks
I won’t be there this week as a group of us (Team Tonks) are taking part in a bike ride from Leicester to Hunstanton! I know some of you are already aware, but for those who aren’t, we are raising money for Mesothelioma UK, LOROS and Derbyshire Asbestos Support Group. My dad, Keith Tonks, was our fabulous photographer here at Braunstone. He was sadly diagnosed with this incurable disease and is unfortunately not well enough to return to doing what he loves, and is so good at! We’re still keeping everything crossed though and hoping he will be strong enough to return one day. If anyone would like to donate then please go to our fundraising page www.virginmoney.com/teamtonks (please select the Team Tonks Fundraising Page). Thanks so much xx

I unfortunately start this weeks report on a negative issue! We have had reports again of inconsiderate drivers parking across driveways, or double parking which is causing problems for the local residents. There are so many areas around the park that are suitable for parking without upsetting anyone. The car park on Cort Crescent, the one you all run through after the lakes, can be used but please bear in mind you all run through it so again need to park sensibly! You can always have a little warm up run from your car to the start line so don’t have to park as close as you can get! The Leisure Centre is still the best place but, like this week, they do have galas so space is limited some weeks. Please PLEASE be courteous to the residents as there is a strong chance the police will get involved and we would hate for parkrun to be put in jeopardy because of just a few parkrunners. Thanks all
So, onto the run A little bit of wind and rain didn’t stop 311 of you setting your alarms and making your way over to Braunstone. A fabulous turnout on what was just an awful morning!! Have to give a super massive THANKS to the volunteers that must have been freezing their bits off!! I say it every week but you really are amazing and without your help we wouldn’t be able to bring this fab event to so many people. We had 39 people run their socks off to bag themselves a PB. Well done to you all! Was it the rain and wind that spurred you on or the need for a hot drink from Gary, the fab Café 2 U man. Whatever it was, you were obviously doing something right We welcomed 28 first timers to our event. Hope you enjoyed yourselves and we look forward to seeing you again in the future. Well done to Julia Parker of Beaumont RC on reaching your 50th parkrun and also to Andy Turner on reaching his 100th!! Brilliant achievement both.
Hope all 311 of you had a fab time and well done to you all
Just a reminder that you must remember to bring your personal barcode with you if you want to get a time. If your barcode doesn’t scan one week then chances are it won’t scan in future weeks so please re-print it. It’s the policy of parkrun UK, not just Braunstone, NO BARCODE NO TIME. So please DFYB!!! (Don’t forget your barcode). If you want to be really posh then why not buy one of the super plastics tags from http://www.parkrun-barcode.org.uk/ They have even been known to stand up to the muddiness of a Wolf Run!!
Have a fab week everyone
Braunstone parkrun core volunteer team
Welcome to this weeks run report. Today we said hello to 41 newbies at Braunstone parkrun. Hope you all enjoyed it and are looking forward to the next one :) It was great so many of you joined in with the Easter spirit, not sure I’d be able to run wearing bunny ears so well done to those who did!! Lol. We had an EGGcellent 55 runners SCRAMBLE their way to a PB!!! Desford Strider, Ash Payne was the 4th runner to cross the finish line BATTERing almost 1 minute of his previous best!! Paul Jones of West End Runners and Gail Cooper of Beaumont both BEAT their times by over 30 seconds. That’s a CRACKING achievement and a big well done to you all, and the rest of the 339 of you who ran on such a bitterly cold morning!
Hope you all had a SMASHING time
Another reminder, Sunday 10th May is the Bosworth Half Marathon. A great value event on a course that takes in some lovely Leicestershire scenery around the historic town of Market Bosworth. For more information please visit their website http://www.bosworthhalf.com/
And finally, parkrun wouldn’t be as fabulous as it is without the wonderful volunteers!! Thanks to all who helped out this week, it’s very much appreciated by us all. If there’s anyone who wants to offer for future weeks then please let us know either via our Facebook page or by emailing us at email@example.com
HAPPY EASTER from all at Braunstone parkrun

What a fabulous morning for a PB, well for staggering 52 of you it was!!! Despite the dreadful weather, an amazing 345 runners turned up and ran the 2 lap course. We had 41 first timers this week, one of whom was Charnwood AC runner, George Burnett who crossed the finish line first in a super speedy time of 16.46!!! He was closely followed by his team mate, James Douglas who ran it in 16.49 and Wreake runner Alex Percy who bagged a PB time of 17.15. First lady across the line was Wreake runner Rachel Nealon in 20.35, which also got her a PB, very closely followed by Huncote Harrier, Nicki Nealon in 20.36, I’m assuming there was some family competitiveness going on here Next was Katie Cooper, another PB runner in a time of 20.41. I’d also just like to welcome Paula Warrington, West End Runners, to the 50 club and Nick Humphreys to the 100 club. Massive well done to you all, and to everyone who took part!
Braunstone parkrun wouldn’t be able to go ahead if it wasn’t for our fabulous volunteers!!! Big shout out to you guys, we all very much appreciate it, thanks so much!! If anyone would like to help out in future then please let us know either on our Facebook page or mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
And finally, now that you can run a parkrun you can run anything!! You’re all amazing so why not go that little bit further. Sunday 10th May is the Bosworth Half Marathon. This is a fabulous well established event which aims to offer the runners a safe, well organised, great value event on a course that takes in some lovely Leicestershire scenery around the historic town of Market Bosworth.
