Braunstone parkrun #231 21/03/15

It was quite a chilly and windy morning for the 231st Braunstone parkrun event.  Despite this, a fabulous 337 people turned up and ran, well 338 if we include our very own timekeeper Andy Ball.  After supporting the runners on their first lap at the ‘1 board’ he then had to go for a sprint up to the finish line when realising the first runner was hot on his heels!!! It’s a good job you’re a Vet 50 champ Andy ;)

First over the finish line in a super speedy 16:38 was Darren Potter. Amber Lester of Charnwood AC was the first lady to cross the line in 19.16 and gaining herself a PB.  She was not alone earning a PB though, a fabulous 83 of you beat your times!! We welcomed 36 first timers to Braunstone.  Hope you enjoyed it and we look forward to seeing you again next week.  Congratulations to Mick Butler of Huncote Harriers and Damien Miles on reaching their ‘50th’ parkrun today and Matthew Wheeler for his 100th. Fab achievement there guys.  Well done to you all, and all who took part today!!

Just a reminder that parkrun has a ‘no barcode, no time’ policy.  This isn’t just at Braunstone, it’s across all events.  You must make sure you have a printed version, whether that be on paper or on of our special tags, which can be purchased here  Barcodes on phones, or memorised, are not allowed.

Don’t forget we are now on Strava so why not join our group by clicking this link and see what your fellow runners are up too,

I finish off with a massive THANK YOU to todays volunteers.  You’re all totally fabulous and without your help then parkrun wouldn’t happen!! It’s very much appreciated by us all and If anyone would like to volunteer in future then please let us know via our Facebook page or by emailing us at

See you all next week and DFYB!!!!

Braunstone parkrun report #230 14/03/2015

An amazing 379 people turned out for our 230th Braunstone parkrun this week.  Massive THANK YOU to our volunteers this week.  I know I’ve said it before but without you guys parkrun wouldn’t go ahead so we really do appreciate you giving up your time, and run, to help out.

There was a staggering 108 runners all smashing their way to a new PB, that’s amazing and whatever you’re doing please let me know as I’m stuck!! Lol.  Emily Whitmore of Loughborough Students AC was not only the first lady across the line, she also bagged herself a PB with a super speedy time of 16:59. Braunstone parkrun regular Steve Gibson, of Beaumont running club, came in second across the line with a PB time of 16:34.  Well done to you all.  Welcome to the 56 ‘newbies’ that turned up this week.  Hope you all enjoyed yourselves and look forward to seeing you again next week J

Just a little reminder that you must bring your barcode with you if you want to get a timed result.  It’s the policy of parkrun UK, no barcode no time.  You can either print one from your profile page or buy one of the plastic ones, or a wristband, from

If anyone fancies having a go at volunteering then please let us know either via our facebook page, or email

Thanks and well done to you all.

Braunstone parkrun report #228 28/02/2015

Despite the cold wind and freezing rain an amazing 342 people braved the elements to take part in this weeks Braunstone parkrun.

Our volunteering roles were taken over by Wigston Phoenix Running Club so a big thank you to them.  Without the volunteers parkrun wouldn’t go ahead so we all really appreciate it.

We had 38 first timers to Braunstone with the majority of those being the first time to parkrun, so well done to you all and hope you enjoyed yourselves. First over the line was Hermitage Harrier, Matty Adcock with an amazing time of 17.02 followed by Steve Gibson of Beaumont Running Club in 18.00.  First lady, Kirsty Addy, clocked an impressive time of 18.20 and West End Runner Vickie Hallam came in second with a time of 21.32.  Great achievement from these guys once again.

The great thing about parkrun is it isn’t all about speed. There was a fabulous 54 runners who ran their socks off to get a PB (personal best).

Not only is parkrun a FREE 5km timed run, it’s a great run that is aimed at all abilities. You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete to achieve a new goal.

See you all next week and DFYB!!!!

Braunstone parkrun Run Report #225 7th Feb 2015

FINALLY!!!!!! After the previous 2 weeks having to be cancelled because of the ice we actually got to go ahead this week.  There were a few slippy patches which resulted in a slight change at the start but it didn’t affect the distance and it gave us the chance to go ahead with the run.  Huge thanks goes out to Nick Moore, Saturday’s Run Director, for his fabulous organisation and ability to make a decision!! Lol.  Many thanks to all the volunteers this week.  Without your help then parkrun wouldn’t be able to continue so it’s very much appreciated.  If anyone would like to have a go then please let us know.  Its great fun and very rewarding.

Steve Gibson of Beaumont RC crossed the line first with a time of 17:33, closely followed by Leicester Tri Club runner David Gorley  with a PB time of 17:35, then Karl Wilkins, also of Beaumont RC in 17:38.  First lady across the line was junior runner Emma Richards of Leicester Coritanians in a time of 19:47, followed by junior Wreake runner Jess Hazell who bagged a PB with a time of 19:58 and another junior Coritanian, Destiny Nicholson coming in third with a time of 20:52.  Massive well done to you all, and all who ran today!!  Despite the cold, an amazing 55 of you ran a PB today. That’s great going so well done to you all.

I just want to remind you all of the parkrun policy on barcodes……………NO BARCODE NO TIME!!!! We do not accept barcodes on mobile phones or memorised numbers so please make sure you bring your printed copy with you.  If your barcode doesn’t scan one week then chances are it won’t scan on future weeks so please make sure you print out a new one.  There’s also the super printed tags that can be purchased from

See you all next week where we will be spreading the love with our Valentine ‘red’ theme parkrun. DFYB!!

Braunstone parkrun #215 – Saturday 29th November

parkrun number 215, took place last weekend with all the volunteering roles taken up by the members of Huncote Harriers running club. For some of them, it was the first time they had volunteered at a parkrun, and they all said that they really enjoyed themselves, and will be offering again soon. One member said it was gratifying to hear people say thank you marshal. So many thanks to everyone at Huncote for making it another sucessful run.
First over the line this week was prolific first finisher Matt Adcock from Hermitage Harriers in 16:40, making it look so easy as usual!!  Second over the line was Steve Gibson another runner who is used to finishing first at Braunstone, and usually on the podium in a time of 17:19, very closely followed by Andy Peet of Wigston Phoenix in 17:20
The ladies run turned out to be an even closer affair, with first timer Ashley Berry running for Loughborough Students taking the honours in 18:03 and 8th place overall. She was followed by Estelle Damant of Ranelagh Harriers in 18:09 and 10th overall, and 11th overall and 3rd lady was Josephine Brysting again from Loughborough in 18.38. So as you can see this week we had some very strong, quick ladies running.
In the junior category first male was Pascal Bouttier Butler in 18:01 and 7th overall, and first junior female was Ysabel Drewitt in 24:17
We had 28 first timers this week, and an amazing 58 pb's
Once again our thanks go out to Huncote Harriers for providing the volunteers, and
hopefully they will be taking over again in the new year

Braunstone parkrun #207 – 4th October 2014

Braunstone parkrun #207 - 4th October 2014

Despite the miserable weather conditions 269 parkrunners turned out to brave the elements.

Congratulations to Chris Joyce of Leicester Triathlon Club for leading the field home this week, in a time of 17:26 and collecting his third parkrun first place finish.
Second and third place was fought out between Ludovic Renou and Paul Wain with times of 17:33 and 17:34 respectively.

The first lady home this week was Sarah Lee in a time of 20:31. Vickie Hallam was second lady 22:23, and third lady home was Ann Hillier in a time of 22:32.

Nick Moore celebrated his parkrunner of the month award by Run Directing in the rain and doing a fantastic job of keeping everything organised.

A total of 23 new Personal Bests were set this week and 25 people took on the Braunstone parkrun for the first time, which is almost 10% of the total runners this week so well done to those who still made it for the first time even if they did get a little soggy!

On a personal note it was a great experience for me to Tailrun this event, keeping people company on their way around the course, special mention must go to Rachael Melvin for making it around the course in the rain on her first time out!

See you all next week!

Braunstone parkrun #206 – 27th September 2014

Braunstone parkrun’s 4th Birthday was proudly bought to you by Desford Striders.

Many thanks to all the Desford Striders that helped out, not just the ones pictured!

Lots of Striders did us proud by giving up their Saturday morning lie in to turn out in club colours and ensure the 206th Braunstone parkrun ran as smoothly as possible. Although not so smoothly for Strider, Sean Bryne, who was in line for a finish time of around 15:30 before taking a wrong turn so unfortunately missed out on the first place position, oops!!! Andy Ball did a fabulous job as Run Director, and Steve ‘The Mouth’ Morris was doing his bit as Funnel Manager ;)  with our lovely marshals Nadine, Pam and Rebecca cheering the runners on with a big smile. Ryan Pegg and Paul Bradshaw paced the runners around the 2 lap course. All the volunteers have done a fabulous job today so a big thank you to you all.

Loads of parkrun enthusiasts dressed for the occasion with a fabulous array of neon. It was brilliant to see so many people celebrating parkrun's birthday. I think they all enjoyed the cake and oranges that were on offer. It’s a well known fact ‘runners love cake!!’ ;) Thanks to Emily, Pam, Sarah and Marie Hobbs for their baking and slicing skills.

Andy Ball doing one of many Run Directing roles!

First across the line this week was Matt Adcock in 16.16. Hywel Davies from Rugby & Northampton AC celebrated his 50th parkrun by taking second position with a fabulous time of 16:24. Beaumont’s Steve Gibson took third place with a time of 16:58. Well done to you all! First lady home this week was West End Runner Laura Davison with time of 20:07 finishing in 30th place overall. Joining Hywel in the ‘50’ club is Salvatore Zappala and Robert Holt of Beaumont RC, congratulations both.

Many of the runners are members of running clubs but the parkrun ethos is that it’s open to everyone and it’s great to see parents encouraging their children to take part too. There were 28 juniors running this week, of which 10 were in the J10 category.

There were an amazing 80 new PB’s this week, well done to you all. Of the 336 runners 27 were running for the first time. Hopefully the great atmosphere of the Braunstone parkrun along with the camaraderie and scrumptious cakes will ensure that they all come back again next week!

Many thanks to all volunteers this week including Andy BALL, Sarah COTTRELL, Cheryl WRIGHT, Steve MORRIS, Paddy CROWE, Nicola DAVIES, Emily NEWTON, Katie HOBBS, Nadine SKINNER, Pam LORD, David CULLEN, Dominic LANE, Hannah LANE, Kelly GROUNDS, Rebecca WOZENCROFT, Ryan PEGG, Paul BRADSHAW, Anne Catherine NEWBERY, Mark Andrew THOMPSON, Michael COULSON, Julie THOMPSON

The volunteer roster for future months is available here;   If you can help out next Saturday or in future please email, or post a message on our Facebook page.

First-time runners are required to pre-register on the parkrun website and ALL runners should bring their printed barcode to each run (DFYB –Don’t Forget Your Barcode).

Braunstone parkrun started on 25th September 2010. Please scroll to the bottom of the page to see some historical facts and figures about our weekly event.

Saturday's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Braunstone parkrun Results Page..

It can be a bit of a pain for runners and organisers when barcodes fail to scan properly because they are tattered, creased, wet or just scruffy ! Registered parkrunners can follow this link to access your personal barcode which you can print off on paper free of charge !, a more professional, WATERPROOF, longer-lasting barcode can be purchased, for a small cost, from parkrun partners, ERS, at this location: proportion of sales revenue is returned to the parkrun organisation).

Want to give feedback? Have anything to say or want anyone or anything mentioned in future run reports? Please email

Braunstone parkrun #161 – 30th November 2013

Saturday 30/11/13 was the 161st Braunstone parkrun, and was hosted by Beaumont Running club.

The volunteer rota was full to the top, we had 5 pacers.  Stuart Coe who himself has done 68 parkruns, helped get 8 other people PB’s.  It’s a good idea to have pacers because people can aim higher and get PB’s.

Thank you to Anne Newbery for organising Movember.  We saw children and adults wear their moustaches in all different shapes and colours at the parkrun.

We had our youngest run director Cian Palmer-Holmes (aged 7) telling everyone, through the megaphone the course and the rules.

There were 260 runners, out of that 24 people were first timers and there were 39 PB’s (15%).  That is a HUGE amount, so well done PB people.  Also, 30 different clubs took part but there were 165 people who aren’t in a club (you are welcome to join Beaumont Running club anytime.)

Well done to Kelvin Kerry for achieving 50 runs.  William Coltman did his 99th parkrun on Saturday, hope you will be there next week for your 100th.  I will sadly not be there because I will be doing the School XC at Prestwold Hall along with school mates and Cian.  Also well done to Charlotte Boon for doing 9 runs hope you will be there to get your 10th run on Saturday.

Melanie Deanne Snutch is a regular at Braunstone  parkrun. She completed her 62nd run, every week she has a smile on her face no matter what.  Also Melanie like Helen Bennett is often seen at various races cheering people on or volunteering.  Helen continuously helps out at the schools XC as well as Braunstone parkrun.

Beaumont Runners enjoyed helping out so the regular volunteers could run.  Have you volunteered? If not give it a try.

By Odhran Palmer-Holmes (aged 10)
