IWD – Please join us on 7th March for International Women’s Day parkrun

We would love for you to join us and parkruns worldwide in a celebration of female participation.  To celebrate #IWDparkrun and #ThisGirlCan bring along a female friend, family member or a work colleague, especially one who has never been to parkrun before. Come along and wear purple, maybe your purple 25 volunteer shirt or anything purple. Maybe volunteer so we have a roster of women to show strong women leading. Lets celebrate women.

Farewell to Leigh – 30th March 2019

This weekend we say thanks and good luck to Leigh Norris who after spending the last 5 and a bit years working tirelessly to get Brentwood set-up and to be an established and fantastic event, is moving on. If you have ever run, walked or jogged Brentwood parkrun or been part of Leigh's network that has made Brentwood parkrun possible please join us, can you all try to get there early so we can extend the briefing to say a few words of thanks. Brentwood parkrun event 17 Run Report

Brentwood parkrun 17 started with the course being laid out in fairly pleasant weather. As the briefing took place and the run started at 9am to the chimes of South Weald Church, we seemed to then be running the event as the Siberian parkrun and in sub-zero temperatures....or was that just me?!

Lots of first timers came to see us this week, 31 as it transpired all told and quite a few familiar, regular faces too. We are so grateful for all your new and continued support for what is still one of the newest parkrun evens around.

The course is drying out very well, possibly the best it's been last weekend but with a few wet patches still at 1KM & 3KM to be wary of. Just for info, as Event Director, I'll be looking at a reverse route in forthcoming weeks as well as a slight change to our current route between 3 & 4KM and maybe even a Summer route around another section of the beautiful Weald Park....I must have planned 7 or more routes setting the event up!

Our first male across the line this week in an astonishing 19:31 was a first timer and a parkrun tourist..a Husky called Spike, who was taken in and cared for when found abandoned at Brentwood Railway Station in 2013..closely followed and attached to his owner, Ian J BERRY (VM40-44) of Winchester and District AC, a lead's length behind. Apparently Ian competes in a sport called CaniCross. Find out more abouSpike at sandrabowers.blogspot.com

A fantastic effort by both of them and an amazing story around Spike.

One of our welcome regulars and men's points leaderboard leader, Elliot WORTH was second over the line in 19:55
Patrick HANNAH (SM20-24) of Manchester Tri Club, was third over the line in 20:17. Another welcome tourist to Brentwood.

For the females in the field, Dita KOTOULOVA was first (18th overall) over the line in 23:56. A great performance there.
An excellent performance from one of our numerous younger runners, Alice CARTER (JW11-14) (Unattached) was second (34th overall) over the line in 27:58.
Maria SELWYN (VW40-44) (Unattached) was third (35th overall) over the line in 28:12.

There were great performances from ALL our runners, of all ages and speeds and it's great to see some of the grit and determination as you run around and cross the line...especially after Heartbreak Hill at 4KM!

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Brentwood parkrun Results Page: www.parkrun.org.uk/brentwood/results/latestresults

We were fortunate enough to have 13 volunteers last weekend including 4 of the Danby family. Thanks to Steve, Geri, Valencia and James and ALL our volunteers for all their help.

This week there were 79 runners, of whom 31 were first timers and 29 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different athletics clubs took part. An amazing turn-out, thank you all!

Your event and ours, relies on volunteers, runners and otherwise, helping to sustain the event on a weekly basis. Please help out by looking at the future roster: http://t.co/P69BrjyUJk
And if you can help out, please mail the team at brentwoodhelpers@parkrun.com

We are on Facebook at Brentwood Parkrun and Twitter at @Brentwoodpkrun so please consider a like or a follow!

Milestone and volunteer t shirts should be available from new parkrun partner agency Tribe Sports in June 2015 so keep those appearances going!

Thanks again for all your help and support with the event so far and we look forward to seeing you next weekend for Brentwood parkrun 18 with Steve Danby as RD!
