Mist, Mizzle and Music! Run Report Bryn Bach parkrun #374 by Jane Woolley
On the lookout for a bit of tourism, we googled 'best parkruns in the UK' and Mountain Warehouse featured Bryn Bach in their top 15. (no 8 as it happens). Stunning picture and it has been a plan for a while. So we made the trip down Friday night, filled up on Brewers Fayre and woke up to ..... MIST.
Ok, so at least it wasn't rain, just a fine drizzle to start with and we arrived at Bryn Bach parkrun. Really easy to find, free car parking and - as we usually find when we travel - very friendly runners. Everyone was welcoming and it's a good warm-up jogging round to the start. There we realised our first error. It's a 2 and a half lap course, so the finish is 1km from the start. Like I said - a good warm-up. Only problem is we're all at the start with our hoodies and bag. No matter - friendly chap behind me tells me - it's all covered with an IKEA bag, one of the team take all the belongings back to the start! (I was happy to run the half lap with it but what a service!)
Anyway a short brief at the start by Lee and we're off. Well, bit of a tight squeeze so we stood still temporarily (Second error was long legs standing too far back at the start, she's quicker than the rest of us!) and then we got going. I'm with little legs today and we enjoyed the music as we passed the finish for the first time, and before I knew it she was asking "have we done a lap yet?" and we were already halfway through the parkrun!
Despite the mist it was a beautiful run, lovely surroundings and a very friendly crowd of runners chatting away. This is a fairly flat run, couple of speed bumps, little wooden bridge, music to keep you going - you locals are lucky to have such a tranquil setting for your parkrun! There is lots of wildlife (canadian geese, swans, coots, moorhens) to see and I can imagine it would be truly gorgeous on a bright morning.
Before we knew it, we were finishing and into the cafe where there was a log burner and free toast (if you buy a cuppa). Job done!
Today 7 people joined the parkrun family by using their barcode for the first time and chose Bryn Bach for their first run, and 3 people came back for their 2nd. Watch out, it's addictive! Great to see lots of people on their 3rd and 4th runs too.
1st finisher today was Jamie Webb with a PB of 16.08 and Lee Aherne had the highest age grade with 86.38%.
21 people bagged themselves a PB and 17 tourists came to Parc Bryn Bach for the first time. We were 4 of them - this was our 30th different parkrun - and we will definitely be back for a return visit!
Thank you to all the high-vis heroes from today - Allyson Power, Andrew Clive Lawrence, Cathryn Ball, Gareth Williams, Harry Davies, Kathleen Jervis, Laura Hire, Michael Kelly, Neil Beynon, Neil James Lloyd,Phillip Miles and Wayne Caniff.
