Burnham and Highbridge parkrun No:213, 27 July 2019

Schools out and the summer holidays have arrived as Burnham and Highbridge saw a significant increase in our participation this morning. 461 turned out this morning to run, walk and jog in pleasant,   warm and breezy conditions. Whilst its not our record turnout, there are plenty more weeks left in the summer holidays where our current record of 589 may be broken. However, we welcomed many parkrun tourists today, who may be staying locally, or tried our parkrun as a means of breaking their journey before returning to their travels up and down a busy M5 motorway. Our parkrun welcomed participants from Norfolk and Cornwall as well as running club members from destinations including Warrington, Bishops Stortford, Sunderland and Parc Bryn Bach on the outskirts of Tredegar in Wales. Wherever you travelled from, we hope you enjoyed today's event and good luck to you all if you have onward journeys!

Congratulations to Katy Kitty Gormley on completing your 150th parkrun. Katy finished in a very respectable 22:05, in 42nd place overall, 4th female home. Special mention also to Mike Horwood, celebrating his 80th birthday today. Mike is a regular to Burnham and Highbridge parkrun and today was his 139th event. Mike celebrated his birthday by completing today’s event in 29:31. Happy birthday Mike! Further mention also to James Warren (23rd in 20:36). James has registered to complete 5km every day for 365 days and today was run 207. Keep going James. Whilst Katy was celebrating her milestone run, Mike celebrated a milestone birthday, and James keeps running, congratulations to our 108 first time parkrunners to Burnham and Highbridge today.

In addition, we had our own first time Run Director in Katrina Bufton. Congratulations Katrina - today’s event ran like clockwork! Alongside Katrina’s first time role as Run Director, our event relies on the generosity of volunteers who provide all the enthusiasm and support to ensure that this event runs smoothly and safely. If you can volunteer for a future Burnham and Highbridge parkrun event it would be greatly appreciated and you’ll join a great team. Please email burnhamandhighbridgehelpers@parkrun.com
