A pleasant summer’s morning for a parkrun and as Run Director it can be quite daunting facing 366 parkrunners to deliver the obligatory pre-run brief!
Thankfully everyone listened to the standard notices and other ramblings of a Run Director before setting everyone off. Congratulations to Mark Newman, celebrating his 100th parkrun today (175th in 28:45) with 97 of Mark’s parkruns completed at Burnham and Highbridge. Now that’s loyalty!
Elsewhere, our 365 other parkrunners (1 for each day of the year maybe) ran, jogged and walked their way around the course. It was good to see so many visitors participate today, representing 49 different clubs together with many people who just enjoy the weekly parkrun arrive from all over the country, praising the course and our set up. Two such visitors were our first two runners home, representing Thames Valley Harriers (Andy Fooks in 17:30), and Garden City Runners (James Huish in 17:39). Our first lady home was Amber Gascoigne from British Military Fitness in 18:22, 6th overall. Congratulations to you all for travelling to Burnham and Highbridge and attending today’s event.
Today’s parkrun remains successful owing to the commitment of our parkrun volunteers. Our shout for volunteers from the weekly news bulletin still remains and if anyone can spare a Saturday morning to support this great team and make our event the success it is it would be greatly appreciated.
