Burnham and Highbridge parkrun #237, 11 January 2020

A cold, wintry morning and yet, 420 parkrunners arrived and conquered the elements to achieve another parkrun. Their conquest may have been to sustain a New Years resolution, embark on a new exercise regime, train for an event or simply maintain their normal Saturday morning routine, but it was good to see so many people brave the weather and attend today’s event.

Among our visitors today was Kirk Shepherd, South West parkrun ambassador. Kirk completed the course in 245th place, in 31:17. I’m sure that Kirk found that today’s parkrun ran smoothly and as professional as ever! Of today’s milestone runners, Graham Turner from Langport Runners completed his 50th parkrun today. Graham completed the course in 58th position in a new PB time of 23:31. Congratulations also to our 40 first time parkrunners. We hope you enjoyed today’s event and picked up the parkrun bug to return again soon.

Our first runners home were Benjamin Haines in an impressive 17:03. Our first lady home was Hannah Taunton in an equally impressive time of 17:32, 2nd overall. No matter what your time and position was today, we hope you enjoyed today’s event.

Today’s event wouldn’t take place or run so smoothly without our volunteers. If you thought it was cold waiting around at the start, or as you made the seafront turn and battled against a headwind, give a thought for the volunteers who stood there to cheer everyone on, made sure you were all safe, ensured that the course was suitably set up, times were recorded, barcodes scanned for checking and uploading to the parkrun site after the run.
