Leap Year = !etuoR esreveR
by Alex Hamilton
Today was the first time since parkrun was founded (2nd October 2004) that leap year (Feb 29th) has fallen on a Saturday. The next time this will happen will be in 2048. So to celebrate this rare event it was decided to do something fun and different this week – hence forth came the reverse route! After additional risk assessments and some extra prep work in the morning, we were ready to host!
As per the norm in 2020, today’s parkrun was in the company of yet another storm, this one called 'Jorge' (pronounced Haw-Hey). The weather before the run was very wet and very windy and many participants were hiding away in their cars. Despite the horrid weather, an amazing 477 people attended our one off special leap year parkrun event. If the weather had been nice we may have been on for a record attendance! The weather reflected this towards the end of the run and glorious sunshine allowed us all to get our barcodes scanned in the dry. Thanks Tim BYRNE for the fab pics!
Did you know...Burnham and Highbridge parkrun was the 1240th parkrun to be created globally? Today’s run was the 244th event at Burnham and Highbridge!
There was an impressive 46 PBs today – well done everybody!
This week 57 first timers joined us, of which, 14 came to Burnham and Highbridge as their first ever parkrun. Well done and hope you enjoyed it – the weather isn’t always this bad here – we promise!
We need to take a moment and celebrate the Milestone Clubs that runners have joined from completing this event….well done to those participants below. Get your shiny new shirts on order!

International women’s day (IWD) is being celebrated at next week's parkrun, with a women's takeover for the volunteer roles. Please wear something purple if you can next Saturday to help celebrate IWD!
See you next week!
