Bury St Edmunds parkrun
Event number 302
1st June 2019

The first day of meteorological summer was beautiful - sunny and warm. A perfect day for a parkrun. 325 of you felt the same way to! 48 were first timers and 42 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 30 different clubs took part. Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Bury St Edmunds parkrun Results Page.

Well done to Steve Laws who joins the 50 run club. Fellow run director Sarah Mansel completed 200 runs today - great running but no teeshirt for that, I'm afraid ;-)

As you may know, parkrun has a partnership with the Royal College of GPs encouraging our GP practices to make use of parkrun to improve the health of their patients, thei staff and themselves. Today was GP pledge day - the RCGP encouraged as many GPs as possible to attend parkrun. 1998 had pledged to do so - and we had a good few at Bury St Edmunds!

I am very pleased to say that both Angel Hill and Mount Road practices have now become parkrun practices and will be promoting our event.

Whilst running, jogging and walking has many powerful health benefits, there can sometimes be "side effects". Sadly one of our runners took a tumble in the woods this week. Our marshal was quick to her aid, as were several other runners. I was phoned and dashed over with the first aid kit just in case. By chance, I bumped into Sue Moggan while running the Stour Valley Marathon on Sunday, and am pleased to say she is fine - and she wants to thank everyone who helped her. Another runner sprained an ankle and was also helped by a marshal. This just goes to show how important it is to have plenty of volunteers at our events. This week there were 18 of us - so many thanks to Maureen MCCARTHY • Stephen PRETTY • Nigel SCHOFIELD • Claire BROWN • Jenny MORGAN • Peter BIRD • David WRIGHT • Dawn MARSHALL • Susan DUNNE • Karen HAMILTON • Sam HAMILTON • Jessica HAMILTON • Rachel MARSH • Sophie PITT ROCHE • Hazel ELDRIDGE • Jasper BRETHERTON • Darran MILES • Helen ELDRIDGE

Do please remember that there is NO parkrun on 8th June. Please take the opportunity to try some of the other events in our area.

This Wednesday is Global Running Day (who knew?) See https://globalrunningday.org for detail. So why not get your running shoes on for a mid week run!

See you out there - Steve
