7th July 2018

It was another hot and sunny morning for Parkrun today. I certainly think it was easier and cooler being Run Director today, and I admire all of you who ran in the heat, especially those of you who recorded personal bests.

Special thanks to some of the volunteers who had to change roles at the last minute today, due to a couple of people having to drop out at short notice. We couldn’t manage to put on parkrun without our volunteers, so please take a look at the future roster and if you are able to fill in any gaps over the next few weeks, do get in touch.

Hope to see you all again next week.

It was extraordinary to meet parkrun tourist Andrew Howard today - he is visiting all parkruns in a 100km radius of his home in East London - by bicycle! It was only just Saturday when he set off to visit us - and he biked home afterward.

Congratulations to Mark Pilkington, who completed his 100th parkrun and also to Sally Griffiths who completed 50 runs.

If you would like to volunteer on 2nd June, please do get it touch via our web page.

At the event on Saturday, we were visited by the team organising the Sudbury Triathlon on 17th June. If that is something that would interest you, find out more at www.entrycentral.com/sudburytriathlon

We also had information about the Race for Life event on 10th June. This is a ladies only 5k or 10k event. They are hoping that some kind gents will also offer to volunteer as marshals. Find out more at raceforlife.org

Just to remind you that there will be a two week gap with no Parkrun at Nowton Park on 19th or 26th May. This will give you a chance to go and visit one of the other Parkruns in the region.

Bury St Edmunds 250th Parkrun 28th April 2018

By a strange co-incidence we had 250 people today on our 250th event! It was a pity the weather was not inspirational, but I hope you all enjoyed it.
It was good to see the MyWish team again with their stall of healthy snacks. I had a go at the atrial fibrillation test today – glad that it was ‘normal’! I hope that many of you also spoke to the Abbeycroft Leisure people today and took advantage of the vouchers they were handing out.

Bury St Edmunds parkrun Event number 249 21st April 2018

A lovely sunny day saw a great turnout for today's parkrun - Spring is here at last!

All of our volunteers today were NHS people, so thanks very much to them. Most of them had never volunteered at a parkrun before - in fact many of them had never been to a parkrun before! It says a lot for how straightforward the parkrun volunteer roles are - anyone can learn to do any of the roles on the day. So if apprehension about not being able to do any of the roles was preventing you from volunteering, there's no need - please email burystedmundshelpers@parkrun.com if you can help in future.

You'll also have noticed the great information and atrial fibrillation testing stall which attracted great interest, not just because of the free fruit! There were also rumours of a bear at large in the park, this has been reported to the park rangers :)

If you want to know more about the MyWiSH "Every Heart Matters" appeal, or donate, use this link: http://mywishcharity.wsh.nhs.uk/Charity/Campaigns/EveryHeartMatters.aspx The MyWiSH folks will be around at next week's parkrun (event 250!) if you didn't get a chance to speak to them today.

Also, as I mentioned, today is my last as Run Director. It's been a great 5 years! I'll still be running or volunteering most weeks, as I really love Bury St Edmunds parkrun.

Congratulations to Katie Pearce-Higgins who completed her 10th parkrun today, and to Dean Hill and Ian Doggett who completed their 50th parkruns.

The official report from parkrun HQ is below.

This week 290 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 23 were first timers and 68 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 22 different clubs took part.
