Run Report Event No 798 – 20 July 2019

Over the Moon

360C54D6-3A9B-4F9B-8394-23AA2E3B2F69

You can’t have failed to notice the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon this week, and the partial lunar eclipse.  Exactly 50 years ago Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon.  Which leads me to wonder how long will it be until the first parkrun on the moon?  Will it be called the Sea of Tranquility parkrun?  And how is the atmosphere in the Tea of Tranquility cafe?

As a point of interest there are 45 athletes called Neil Armstrong registered worldwide to parkrun, unsurprisingly no Buzz (or real name Edwin) Aldrin, but there are 98 Michael Collins (who stayed on the Command service module while the lunar module landed with the two more well known astronauts).

Back to earth there were plenty of athletes who were “over the moon” to be at Bushy this week, and several hoping the planets would align to give them a PB.

Things were a little damp and grey first thing, not a crater in sight but the algae on the pond made things a little other worldly.

The Pheasantry

Whilst we had post run coffee, chatting, token sorting and general eating, the heavens opened, and we all thanked our lucky stars that Ray Coward had been our Run Director and held off the rain until after the run.

Coming soon . . .

Saturday 3rd August is the 800th event at Bushy.  To celebrate we would love you to run in any fancy dress you deem appropriate, any milestone t-shirt, or indeed any parkrun t-shirt.  We will be providing tables and glasses and the odd bottle of prosecco, and would like to encourage you to bring your own cakes, biscuits, drinks, and fizz to help us celebrate this momentous occasion in style.

Ride London are looking for volunteers on 4th August to help out in Bushy Park and Sandown Park at the start of two events.  It should be good fun and they will make a nice donation to Bushy parkrun if we can get a few people together.
