4000kms and Counting
We human beings, we like to celebrate milestones and round numbers, so this weekend was a special one for Bushy and parkrun. On Saturday we celebrated our 800th event with fancy dress, milestone teeshirts, apricot, fizz and cake. Founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt was on hand to help mark the occasion.
Joy and Donald were ready to save the world
I thought long and hard but a caption escaped me!
Lorraine the Pink Lady
Stefan the ballerina
The Richie family run together at Bushy, although this was their first time running with Batman and Robin!
Ian, Nick and Jack with a photograph from the start line of the first event.
The Falcous were visiting from Northumberland where Lesley and son Evan are run directors at Druridge Bay parkrun.
Hazel Pert was visiting from Glasgow where she runs at Pollok parkrun
Interesting facts bit
When parkrun began in 2004 things were a little different. Who remembers that Tony Blair was PM, Lance Armstrong was winning his 6th Tour de France (we all know how that turned out) Ugg boots were scuffing their way interminably up and down every High Street, Arsenal achieved their invincible season and 'The Special One' arrived at Chelsea.
Of those running at Bushy this week we had two runners with over 600 runs to their names. Richard Fletcher on 635 and Ramona Thevenet on 625. Also running were pioneer James Russell on 549 and parkrun founder Paul Sinton Hewitt on 440. The runner with the highest number of runs worldwide is Darren Wood. Darren has run a total of 732 times with 257 of them at Bushy. He has only missed 68 of the available 800 runs, which is a pretty impressive statistic!
At the start line
Ray was our run director this week as he has been for a great many of the previous 799 events.
1459 of us lined up for event number 800...
...including Gill and Mike in their very fetching bows.
The Event bit
No harm could befall us, not whilst Super Woman (person) was on the case.
'Quick, Clas Ohlson in Kingston is holding a closing down sale!'
Elisabeth was at her corner dressed up especially for us as Cleopatra with her friend David who in his day was a regular runner, often running to work in the city.
Elisabeth always gets a lot of love from our athletes. It's very heartwarming to stand for a minute and watch the waves, smiles and greetings she receives.
...some even stop for a quick photo!
400 metres to go.
The Finish bit
Michelle and Jan on token duty
Verity couldn't spell it out any clearer!
This is a very important moment. maximum concentration needed from both parties.
Don't even think about talking to Una while she's sorting the tokens!

Many congratulations to Rory Waddell on becoming the latest member of our prestigious 500 club. Seen here in the purple tee shirt holding the sign, Rory had run 348 times at Bushy before moving to Sheffield where his nearest run is Graves parkrun. He's run there 122 times as well as at six other parkrun locations. He came back to Bushy especially to do his 500th run.
80% age grading
Nineteen athletes scored over 80% at the weekend, very well done to all of you and especially to Jonathan for his super quick time of 14:36.
