Report Event No 874 – 30 April 2022

Just a perfect day

Not too hot, not too cold, clear blue sky, what more could we ask for on a Saturday morning?

I was multi-tasking today as Report Writer and Volunteer Coordinator, welcoming all our lovely volunteers and explaining their roles to them. We very much welcome new volunteers so please, if you would like to help out occasionally, contact us at bushy@parkrun.com. No experience necessary! We would also like more people to help out as VI guides. You may have noticed that each week we have a number of Visually Impaired runners who are guided round the course helping them to avoid the hazards. Again, if you can help us occasionally, please contact us.

So to today's 61 volunteers. Our thanks go to: John ALTMANRichard BATEChloe BAYLISNick BLANCHARDPhil BLUERLouise BOOLSChris BRIMACOMBERichard BULKLEYLauren BURKEJonathan BURSONJocelyn COLLIERuby COLQUHOUNNicolette CRINALLGeorge DAUBNEYRichard EVANSSadie EVANSAva EVENSENJake FOXErin GOODWINRichard GRAYSophie GREENWOODStella HAMMONDMac HARROWELLRobby HEDGESDavid HOPPEMelanie HOWESCharlotte INGYONLouis JOLLKatie KNOTTSteve LORDEAmelia MACFARLANEPeter MARTINMarina MARTINEZ-BARROSOSteve MILLERDiane MULLENRyan MULLENEmma May MURPHYJoseph MURPHYSimon NEWTONMartin NICHOLDSKeara-Valentine O'BRIENCarmen PALMERJeremy PALMERRichard PATIENTRosie RENDALLJames RIMMERAlice ROBERTSSally ROWEAnna SAVILLNick SAVILLFiona SCOTTJames SELLMerran SELLJoanne SINTON-HEWITTDiana SMITHLucy THATCHERCharlie THOMASAlex TICKELLRebecca WALLISRhiannon WILLIAMSRhys Thomas WILLIAMS

The founder of parkrun, Paul Sinton-Hewitt joined us today and I introduced 7 year old Jonah to him. Jonah was about to complete his 25th parkrun and Paul chatted to him explaining the history of parkrun. For anyone that isn't aware, the first ever event was in Bushy park on 2 October 2004 when 13 runners got together for a 5k timed run. Originally known as the Bushy Park Time Trial, it took nearly two years before the event spread beyond Bushy, taking the name parkrun in 2008 and expanding into other countries. Now there are hundreds of thousands of parkrunners worldwide.

There was quite a crowd listening to Nick give the first timers briefing this morning with visitors from far and wide.

Meanwhile the preparations continue. The funnel is almost ready, Lucy the Run Director briefs the scanners and the token sorters prepare to sort.

I made my way to the bridge, the point with about 800 metres to go, and was surprised to see the lead bike arrive so quickly, followed by the first runner home, Harry Smith who finished in a fantastic time of 15:18. Extraordinarily he was a full 1 minute and 34 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.  A very well done to Harry.

And finally, a big congratulations to Dolly the Dog, pictured here with Harry, who completed her 100th parkrun today! Dolly can be seen most weeks with Bushy regulars Les and Jackie.

 Milestones

I think we need to start off with a massive congratulations to Ramona for running her 700th parkrun today - what an achievement.
