Joy of Joys
Joy is one of our regular volunteers. She has been taking part and volunteering at Bushy since 2011 and on Saturday was celebrating her 80th birthday. Happy birthday Joy...
...but let's not forget the other part of the dynamic duo, her husband Donald. Donald also started parkrun in 2011 and, as you can see, is also one of our regular volunteers.
Andrew was having difficulty getting the flag holder thingy into the hard ground, it's especially difficult when you're balancing a tiny person on your shoulders.
Verity was one of our volunteer coordinators this weekend.
Visitors
As always we had our usual contingent of visitors to Bushy, it's always so jolly to chat to them and hear their stories.
Dianne and Caroline were visiting from Stoke to celebrate Caroline's 50th birthday. They'd stayed overnight and were travelling straight back home after their run for more birthday celebrations. To be honest I forgot to ask them why they'd dressed up as John and Ringo from Sergeant Pepper's but they looked absolutely splendid.
Mandy, Graham and Maggie were visiting from Shorne Woods in Kent.
Jolyon started parkrun in 2008 at Bushy, he's since moved to Worthing but comes back to get his Bushy fix whenever he's in town. He even met his wife at Bushy parkrun in 2010 and was pleased to report they are still very much together!
These guys are the entire Core Team from East Grinstead parkrun. This was the first time they'd all been absent from their event since it started five years ago. There were no reports on how well or badly it went without them! Apparently East Grinstead is rated as the 20th hardest parkrun and is one of only two that cross the Meridian Line. That's the imaginary line that connects the geographic North and South poles (thank you google)

Here we have Lotte Spencer and Paul Graham. Lotte was running her first parkrun with Paul her neighbour coaching her around the course. Paul (better known as Peej) is the founder of junior parkrun which ran it's first 2K event in Bushy back in April 2010. There are now over 250 junior parkrun events in the UK, Ireland and Australia.
You may have seen a lot of Stragglers and Wimbledon Windmilers running vests during Saturday's event, this was due to a mob match between the two clubs. The Stragglers had one hundred and twenty seven runners and the Windmilers fifty one. It looked like a thinly disguised excuse to eat a lot of cake and pastries to me!
Any way, there we are, have a good week.
See you Saturday!
Duncan
