We were delighted to be able to go ahead with our fourth Caledonian junior parkrun on a glorious morning on Sunday 8th March, following the disappointment of recent cancellations due to Storms Ciara and Dennis last month.
We were thrilled to have 28 runners and their support teams come and join us in the sun. This included four participants who had never been to a parkrun before and five who had never been to Caledonian Juniors, as well Jacob Wallace and James Watts who both managed a PB (personal best). Whether it was your first time, your fastest time, or just another fun event, we are looking forward to welcoming you all back again!
This event wouldn’t be possible our wonderful helpers - having volunteered at all of the Caledonian parkruns I can honestly say it is worth getting out of bed for, particularly the role of ‘warm up leader’. Whilst this role does not seem a popular choice before the event once the leader (myself for the last couple of runs) asks “who wants to come and help”, runners and parents volunteer straight away, helping lead the ‘Gorilla Running, Sun Jumping’ start to the event! For those tempted it comes with an instruction sheet, really isn’t as daunting as it might seem and is a great start to the day, I thoroughly recommend it!
Other volunteer roles range from marshals on the course, cheering the children on and making sure everyone is safe and well, to timekeepers, barcode scanners, finish tokens and tailwalkers. Volunteering is really fun! Some roles can even be done whilst still taking part in the event, accompanying children along the route, or can be done by children.
Please take a look at our future roster here, to see what roles are available. If you think you may be able to volunteer, or want to know more, please drop an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends of Caledonian Park and staff at Islington Council for all their support. We are thrilled to have been supported by the Holloway ward councillors through Islington Council’s Local Initiatives Fund. And thanks to Veera for this week's photos - there are more available if you log onto the parkrun Flickr account (the link is through the 'photos' tab on the website).
We look forward to seeing you soon at Caledonian junior parkrun!
