Cambridge parkrun #476 Run Report – June 8th , 2019

Despite the rain and the wind, Cambridge parkrun number 476 had a fantastic turnout.

There were 413 participants in all, representing 32 different running clubs. Of the 413 runners, joggers, walkers, 43 were first timers and 65 individuals achieved a new personal best! Today’s parkrun was made possible through the volunteer efforts of 41 individuals.
I ,Marysol Bell, author of this run report and my very first run report in fact, would like to take this opportunity to highlight two individuals that I met on the day. First, I met a lovely lady by the name of Pauline who has just embarked on her very own couch to five k journey. She attended today’s parkrun as a volunteer, and would you believe she took on the role of timer! She hopes to get a few more volunteer opportunities under her belt before she runs her first five k, which she plans on running at Milton County parkrun.

I love how parkrun is extremely international, present at today’s park run was Andy, a GP from Australia who is in the country visiting family. His grandparents were from Cambridge and while in the country he hopes to make it to as many parkruns as he can. Andy tries to encourage his patients to be active and to get involved in parkrun. One of his patients did just that and has lost well over 45 kilos and is now an avid parkrunner. Well done Andy and we were so
glad that you were able to join us today! Parkrun truly is an international Family where all are welcomed.
