Festive Camperdown parkruns

Hi everyone,

We will be holding parkrun at Camperdown straight through the festive period, as usual.

This year Christmas day has to be at 09:30, so those presents will have to wait until after the main business of the day - parkrun! Secret Santa details to come!

New Year - we're 09:30, giving you plenty of time to get to a second parkrun for the double! (Work out your parkrun double options here: http://tailrun.uk/nyd/2020/uk/)

Thanks everyone!

Runs directors.

Camperdown event 364

Another awesome parkrun day successfully completed.

Today we had 200 runners, including 15 first timers.

Thanks so much to our fabulous parkrun volunteering team, without whom the event wouldn't run so smoothly. Special thanks to Luke Burns who has been volunteering with us as part of his Duke of Edinburgh, and completed his 12th volunteering this week.

See you all next week!

Festive parkrun roundup

Its been another awesome festive season, with lots of parkrunning opportunities. Thank you so much to everyone who has taken part in our Saturdays or our extra festive parkruns this year.

Its been great to see lots of visitors at Camperdown, including people from Milan, Leeds, Cardiff, and Perth. We've also had lots of new parkrunners joining us over the past couple of weeks and 48 first timers today, so we really hope you have enjoyed it and that you'll come back again.

Huge well done to everyone who did the New Year's Day Double today. I was through in Perth, and loved my first experience of double parkrunning. We had a huge turnout at Camperdown today too, and beautiful sunny weather for it.

Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped today, and those who have helped all year. parkrun wouldn't happen without our awesome high viz team, and us Run Directors all love getting to know you better when you help out.

We had a couple of milestone runs today:

Carolann Smith joined the 50 Club
Jim Morton joined the 250 Club
Jan Tavendale ran her 200th Camperdown parkrun
Massive acheivements so well done.

This Saturday is pacer week, and we're still looking for some volunteers, so if you want to get involved, please let us know!

See you all soon!

Christmas and New Year’s parkruns

Its that time again!! Here are our plans for Christmas and New Year's parkrunning fun!

Dec 22nd - 9.30am - Christmas fancy dress

Dec 25th - 10am - we'll be doing a Secret Santa this year again. If you wish to take part, please bring a gift, labelled as 'adult' or 'child', place it in Santa's sack, and collect a gift when you finish.

Dec 29th - 9.30am - parkrun as normal

Jan 1st - 11am New Year's Day parkrun

Perth parkrun will be running at 9.30am, so if you're up early you can do Perth first, then come back to Camperdown for the double. Look out some tartan, and celebrate the New Year with friends!

Camperdown parkrun 22/9/18 – Storm Ali

Storm Ali threatened to bring Camperdown parkrun to a halt this week, as the winds blew down a lot of trees to the West end of the park, notably blocking the route on the big climb up by Gourdie Brae. Thanks to a number of park runners who were out to check the route we were able to get down there on Friday evening to move, cut, hack, and chop the trees so we could have a clear run on the day. A massive thanks to those who were out to help.

Landmark runs at Camperdown parkrun on the 22nd September!

Another week, another 250 shirt - Roger Tavendale reached the 250th run this weekend. Running in the 65-69 category, Roger has a 2018 PB of 23:10!

200 parkruns up for Brian Middleton who has been with us from the very start, is a regular volunteer, and I'm told has a sub-3 hour marathon in his record book, and at the age of 71 has a Camperdown PB of 25:16.

150 parkruns for Pauline McKay, one of our celebrity parkrun couples, Pauline is a regular volunteer, and keeps Josh in line. Mostly.

Last, but by no means least, Eloise Ip joins the 10 club this week too. She has completed all her 10 runs at Camperdown, and in 2018 has reduced her PB from 38:35 to 33:42 - well done Eloise.

We don't always know who's going to be running a landmark run before the start - with over 6000 runners registered at Camperdown, and literally millions of potential visitors, we struggle to keep up! So if you're about to do a landmark, or your pal is, do let us know so we can make an announcement for you!

Here's the official stats for the day:

Event #327!

We had a fabulous turnout this week, it was great to see so many of you! Thanks to all our tourists for coming along, we hope you enjoyed it! Well done to all of our new runners too, especially Ava who celebrated her birthday with her first parkrun.. what an awesome way to start a birthday!

Thank you also to our amazing volunteer team, especially our Duke of Edinburgh volunteers Matthew, Holly and Stuart who will be helping for the next few weeks. It's great to have them along.

Well done to Gail Stirling who joined the 50 club this week!

There were quite a few forgotten barcodes this week. No printed barcode, no time. We hate you missing your run credit so please try to remember it!

There was also an issue with some of your results, but the results have now been reprocessed and should all be correct.

See you all next week!

May 12th – 250 up for Emma and Harry

A lovely day in the sunshine, albeit a little squelchy underfoot. Emma Fardon and Harry Mitchell became Camperdown's 2nd and 3rd members of the 250 club. There was cake, there were photos, there was merriment, there was the crushing realisation that it will be another 5 years at least until the next t-shirt (500!). There are only 2757 people in THE WORLD who are in the 250 club.

Other Camperdown parkrunners to reach a landmark this week:

  • Wendy Patterson and Mary O'Connor - 25 times volunteering
  • Elliot Berghuis - 10 club!!!
  • Fiona Dutch and David Collison are both at 99 runs, so will get their 100 very soon!

    BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Next week Camperdown parkrun turns 6. Yes, we've been at this game for 6 years. As usual we have a fancy dress theme - this year we're going with Summer Holidays, so it's Hawaiian shirts, bermuda shorts, sunglasses and fancy hats. My children have decided to go with ski jackets - Summer holidays in the Southern Hemisphere, apparently. I suspect they'll boil in their sallopettes.

    Here's the official numbers:

This week 153 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 10 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.

    300th parkrun celebrations

Its hard to believe it, but next weekend will be our 300th Camperdown parkrun, and we think that deserves a bit of celebration!!

We've come such long way since the first event on May 19th 2012 with 106 runners. With 40,550 runs recorded so far, collectively you have ran 202,750k, which would take you more than 5 times round the world!

We've made so many new friends, and appreciated sharing your running successes along the way. So to celebrate our 300th run, we would love to get to know more of you, and get lots of you involved in your parkrun.

This weekend is pacers week, so we are looking to have pacers for every minute marker. Pacing is a great way of seeing the field from a different point, and helping out other runners to hit their goals. If you've not done it before, how about giving it a go this week? Just let us know what time you wish to do, and we can help with your timings.

We would also love it if we could have a band of volunteers this week who have never volunteered before!! Volunteering is a great way to see behind the scenes of how your parkrun works, and to get to know other runners. Jobs are easy, and we'll make sure you know what you're doing. So if you've been waiting for the right moment, or unsure about trying it out, please get in touch this week, and join us for the 300th!

If you want to pace or volunteer, email us at camperdownhelpers@parkrun.com

    Christmas parkrun and alternative route

Tomorrow is Christmas Day and we will be holding our special extra parkrun. The run will start at 10am - so you get an extra half hour to open presents! Please feel free to wear your santa hat or elf outfit! We're looking forward to seeing you all.

On Saturday, we tried a slight change to the route. We ran alternated the narrow first trail and the path past the playpark, so that you started out on the wider playpark road, and came back on the narrow path. This is mainly with your safety in mind, allowing you more space in the first km to run at your own pace and overtake if you wish to, without the crowding that we can have at the moment. It also means that you still get to enjoy the narrow trail later in the run when you are more spaced out.

The feedback on Saturday was overwhelmingly positive, and we think this will be a good route going forward. We are planning on running the route again tomorrow too. We are aware that the route was slightly long on Saturday, but don't worry, we will measure it accurately if we decide to change permenantly and make sure you finish at 5km.

    Happy running and merry Christmas!
