Festive Camperdown parkruns

Hi everyone,

We will be holding parkrun at Camperdown straight through the festive period, as usual.

This year Christmas day has to be at 09:30, so those presents will have to wait until after the main business of the day - parkrun! Secret Santa details to come!

New Year - we're 09:30, giving you plenty of time to get to a second parkrun for the double! (Work out your parkrun double options here: http://tailrun.uk/nyd/2020/uk/)

Thanks everyone!

Runs directors.

May 12th – 250 up for Emma and Harry

A lovely day in the sunshine, albeit a little squelchy underfoot. Emma Fardon and Harry Mitchell became Camperdown's 2nd and 3rd members of the 250 club. There was cake, there were photos, there was merriment, there was the crushing realisation that it will be another 5 years at least until the next t-shirt (500!). There are only 2757 people in THE WORLD who are in the 250 club.

Other Camperdown parkrunners to reach a landmark this week:

  • Wendy Patterson and Mary O'Connor - 25 times volunteering
  • Elliot Berghuis - 10 club!!!
  • Fiona Dutch and David Collison are both at 99 runs, so will get their 100 very soon!

Next week Camperdown parkrun turns 6. Yes, we've been at this game for 6 years. As usual we have a fancy dress theme - this year we're going with Summer Holidays, so it's Hawaiian shirts, bermuda shorts, sunglasses and fancy hats. My children have decided to go with ski jackets - Summer holidays in the Southern Hemisphere, apparently. I suspect they'll boil in their sallopettes.

    Here's the official numbers:

This week 153 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 10 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 10 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 17 volunteers:

Tom FARDON • Peter M BRACEGIRDLE • Gill HANLON • Emma FARDON • Jacqueline MCCULLOCH • Andrew BENNETT • Douglas ADAMSON • Josh FARDON • Wendy PATTERSON • Don CRAWFORD • Josh MCKAY • Anna WOODWARD • Ian CLARK • Freda CLARK • Laura LI • Jane CRAWFORD • Bruce CLARK

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Camperdown parkrun, Dundee Results Page.

The male record is held by Kristian JONES who recorded a time of 15:34 on 29th October 2016 (event number 235).
The female record is held by Anna HEDLEY who recorded a time of 18:36 on 28th April 2018 (event number 311).
The Age Grade course record is held by James Angus DONALD who recorded 85.17% (15:51) on 29th October 2016 (event number 235).

Camperdown parkrun, Dundee started on 19th May 2012. Since then 5,536 participants have completed 42,969 parkruns covering a total distance of 214,845 km, including 7,850 new Personal Bests.

    First finishers:

Martin Hutchinson in his new Singlet
Elaine Omand in her big sunglasses

    Christmas parkrun plans

The Christmas Compendium is up! We are looking forward to some extra festive running again this year. The timetable looks like this:

Christmas Eve - fancy dress parkrun at 9.30
Christmas Day - parkrun at 10am - fancy dress opitonal. We'll be doing secret Santa again, so please bring a gift if you would like to receive a gift. Mark on it if its for adults or kids, and you'll receive one when you finish
    New Year's Eve - parkrun at 9.30am
New Year's Day - Perth parkrun will be on at 9am,
    Camperdown parkrun at 11.30am

On New Year's Day, you are able to run 2 parkruns.. who's going to go for the double??

    Happy running

    Defibrillator for Camperdown parkrun appeal

parkrun is free to all participants, an over-arching principle that has stood since the inception of the movement.  But there are occasions when we need to purchase a new piece of equipment, or renew an old piece of kit, when we need money.  We feel there is now a need to purchase an important piece of equipment for Camperdown, and we need your help to raise sufficient funds.

There have been a few recent high profile cases of collapses at parkruns around the country, on a couple of occasions there has been a need for urgent medical attention, including cardiac defibrillation on scene.  We currently do not have a defibrillator, but we think it important that we get one, in case of such an emergency.

A defibrillator isn't cheap, obviously, but if every parkrunner from Saturday past donated £10, we would have enough.

Please consider donating to Camperdown by visiting this page.  If you donate by clicking the image, the money should come directly to us.

Many thanks for being part of our awesome event every week.

    Festive parkruns

Winter seems to be coming round pretty quickly, so its time to start talking about our plans for festive parkruns. As previous years, we will be running extra parkrun events on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
Christmas Day will be at 10.30am
New Year's Day will be at 11.00am
This is to allow you all to open presents, and enjoy your champagne breakfast before joining us.

This year, parkrun are allowing you to log two runs on New Year's Day. If any keen beans fancy doing this, Perth parkrun will be running at 9.30am as normal, allowing plenty time to run there before doing Camperdown.

We will of course still have our normal Saturday parkruns throughout the festive period, and we would love it if you wanted to come in festive fancy dress on Satruday December 20th. There may be some mince pies and chocolates going around too...

    Happy running :)

    Christmas Day parkrun

A quick update on the Christmas day parkrun at Camperdown. We'll be holding the usual parkrun, starting at the usual spot, but at the later time of 10:30, allowing you all to open your running related presents, and get up to the park. Elaine will be RD, but she needs more volunteers to help out on the day.

If you can help, please e-mail camperdownoffice@parkrun.com to let us know - the run can't happen without the generosity of the volunteers.

The cafe will be closed, so bring your own post run snack and beverage!

    New Years Day Parkrun

A quick note to confirm that we will be holding (weather permitting) a parkrun at Camperdown on New Years day. We'll need some volunteers, of course, so if you don't fancy running, or would like to 'make it happen', let us know at camperdownoffice@parkrun.com

The run will start at 10:30, usual place. The cafe is likely to be closed - we'll double check - so it might be worth bringing your own supplies for the post run socialising: turkey sandwiches anyone?

    Event Cancellation September 7th

We are sorry to announce that we will be cancelling Camperdown parkrun on September 7th due to the Flower and Food Festival in the park. All of you who were running with us last year will remember that unfortunately the event takes over the whole park, and it is not feasible for us to hold the run that weekend.

However, we are looking at this as an exciting opportunity for some parkrun tourism!! We will be trying out Tollcross parkrun, which is apparently almost as tough a course as ours! It is quite a new event - they started on May 4th this year and still has small numbers. So it would be great to get a good group of Camperdown parkrunners down to take on the course.

We will arrange car sharing closer to the time, but for now put it in your diaries!!

    Sweatshop Monthly Shoes Prize June!

We are pleased to announce that this month's running shoes go to Kenneth Macleod. He has had 39 parkruns at Camperdown, and 46 total so only 4 away from the 50 Club! Well done Kenneth and enjoy your new shoes!

    Parkathon 2013 – June 21st

The very ambitious parkrunners from Strathclyde parkrun are planning to celebrate the growth of parkrun in Scotland, by visiting and running each of the 10 Scottish parkruns in 24 hours!
They will be starting in Inverness at 7.30am on the morning, and making their way through the country to finish in Strathclyde in the small hours of the following morning!
They're inviting any parkrunners who want to join them to come along when they visit Camperdown. They're expecting to be with us at 1pm, so if you fancy a lunchtime run, or have a free afternoon, they would love to see you.
These will be freedom runs and won't be timed or count towards your parkruns. You will also be running at your own risk as there will be no marshalls or volunteers present.
If anyone wants more info about it, send us a message.
