Today we celebrated our tenth Canons Park parkrun. It is a fitting time to thank everyone for all their support during the fledgling weeks of our event, whether attending as a runner, a walker or a mix of both. Perhaps you've attended as a supporter, or given up your time and opportunity to run to help volunteer. Whichever way you have chosen to support our event, can I offer you a big thank you from our core team. Without your support we simply couldn't offer such a fantastic and free event to the Canons Park community!
As we move into the festive season I'd like to take this opportunity to confirm what parkrun events are available to you over the coming weeks. Canons Park will run every Saturday at the usual time of 9am throughout the year, including Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. All parkrun events also have the opportunity of hosting events on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. On this occasion Canons Park parkrun will not run on these additional days, although below are some of our local events that will be. New Year's Day is particularly special as it is the one day of the year that you can log two parkrun events in one day (if you choose to!). If you are on the road over the festive season, you can also take a look at the Christmas Compendium where you can check whether local events will or will not be hosting Christmas Day or New Year's day runs.
Locally, your options for the festive season are as follows:
24th Dec - Canons Park parkrun takes place at the usual time of 9am.
25th Dec - Northala Fields and Cassiobury events are both taking place at 9am.
31st Dec - Canons Park parkrun takes place at the usual time of 9am.
1st Jan - South Oxhey is taking place at 9am. You then have the option of running a 2nd parkrun event at Cassiobury or Gladstone at 10.30am.
This week there were 62 runners, of whom 16 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. Well done to our first finishers Malcolm Muir (men), Sasha Birkin (women), Frank Anderson (junior boy) and Mya Varsani (junior girl). The men's course record was broken again today by Malcolm Muir. Congratulations!
A big thank you, as always, to the 9 volunteers who helped make our event happen today. They were Andrew SOUTHERLAND-KIRBY, Anita AMIES, Chris PARKINSON-BEST, Hayley HURLIMANN, John AYTON, Kanti VARSANI, Robert GRAHAM, Sean SOUTHERLAND-KIRBY and Yvonne D'SOUZA. It is because of our runners choosing to give of their time occasionally that Canons Park parkrun happens. Please consider offering your time once in a while as this is what we need to keep the event running smoothly. All roles are quick and easy to learn and all training is offered before the run. Please take a look at our volunteer roster and then email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name/barcode number and preferred dates and roles. We'll do the rest!
Finally, please join us over on Facebook (@CanonsParkparkrun) and Twitter (@CanonsParkpkrun) where the conversation continues throughout the week.
