Christmas Day and New Year’s Day 2018/19

We are delighted to confirm that, in keeping with the tradition of the last 3 years, we will once again be holding extra runs at Cassiobury on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. These are the only 2 days of the year when runners can record runs NOT on a Saturday! Please note: “On Christmas Day you will not be able to register more than one result. On New Year's Day we [HQ] will allow the option to register up to two results.” Our neighbours at Rickmansworth will start at 09:00 on New Year’s Day to give you the option to run twice – other parkruns are also available, as you can see on the Christmas Compendium.

If you intend to travel between 2 parkruns on New Year’s Day, please plan your journey and parking in advance (why not cycle or run between the 2, if you can?) and, needless to say, do not take any risks in getting from one to another. Please try to share car journeys wherever possible, and minimise the impact of these extra runs.

Huge thanks to the run directors who agreed to head the events over the festive season and to the fabulous volunteers who have already put their names forward to help. As you can see from the roster, there are still spaces available, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you would like to offer your services: (please include your barcode whenever you contact us, so we can find you on the system).

Please be aware that the Cha Café will be taking a well-earned break from 12:00 on Saturday 22nd December, and therefore the café and toilets will not be open again until the new year. The nearest toilets will be at The Hub in the park (by the paddling pools and Gade Avenue car park, towards the canal) or at Watford Underground Station (the ladies is just inside the door; the gents is on the platform).

On Saturday 29th December, the team intends to process the results and sort the tokens at GoKula Vegetarian Café in Market Street (about 1 mile from the park) The LP Cafe (173 The Parade, Watford, WD17 1NJ) - less than a mile from parkrun - and anyone who would like to join us is very welcome to do so.

So, a quick summary of the Christmas period:

  • Sat 22th Dec – parkrun as usual at 09:00; Cha Café closes at 12:00
  • Tue 25th Dec – extra parkrun at 09:00
  • Sat 29th Dec – parkrun as usual at 09:00; last-Saturday-of-the-month Pacer Day as usual; results processing at GoKula The LP Cafe
  • Tue 1st Jan – extra Rickmansworth parkrun at 09:00; extra Cassiobury parkrun at 10:30
  • Sat 5th Jan – back to usual at 09:00 … start the year as you mean to go on!

Christmas Day and New Year’s Day 2017/18

[Please click here to see the latest run reports]

Get 2018 off to a great start with a brisk 5k or two!

We are delighted to announce that we will be holding extra runs on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as we have done for the past two years. Both extra runs will be at 09:00.

It goes without saying that we need volunteers to make these runs happen, and we have confidence that members of our fantastic parkrun community will do their bit and volunteer at the earliest opportunity! Please email

We are also happy to say that our neighbours at Rickmansworth parkrun will be holding an extra run on New Year's Day at 10:30 - this is the only day of the year on which parkrunners can record TWO runs! If you intend to run at both venues, please plan your journey in advance and do not take any risks when travelling between the two. Why not run at one and volunteer at the other on NYD?

To confirm ...

Sat 23/12/17 = Cassiobury parkrun as usual at 09:00
Mon 25/12/17 = extra Cassiobury parkrun at 09:00
Sat 30/12/17 = Cassiobury parkrun as usual at 09:00
Mon 01/01/18 = extra Cassiobury parkrun at 09:00
Mon 01/01/18 = extra Rickmansworth parkrun at 10:30
Sat 06/01/18 = back to normal, with Cassiobury parkrun at 09:00

Other seasonal runs are available - check out the entire UK Christmas Compendium here and international runs here.

We understand that the Cha Cafe will be open until after the 23rd December run but will then be closed until 2nd January. Please check their Facebook page nearer the time for confirmation.

Festive dress optional but welcomed!

Three dates – four special runs!

25th December 2016 09:00: Our second Christmas Day run! What better way to start the day than with a refreshing parkrun (no-one's expecting any PBs!) in a beautiful location with sociable people! Festive dress* encouraged & welcomed!

31st December 2016 09:00: It's Saturday parkrun as usual ... but this will be our 100th run! The theme* is "NYE 'Tight & Bright' Spectacular" ... take that whatever way you want! While the parkrun colour for the 100th milestone is black, we thought this might be a bit gloomy for mid-winter, so let's try to get Cassiobury Park sparkling on this December morn!

1st January 2017 09:00: NYD South Oxhey parkrun10:30: NYD Cassiobury parkrun | Start 2017 as you mean to go on, with a brisk 5k to blow the cobwebs away - and a once-a-year chance to run TWO parkruns in one day! (if you so desire!)

(*Kit suggestions are, of course, entirely optional ... "Respect everyone’s right to participate in their own way"!)

If you're going to be away over the festive season, check out the Christmas Compendium of extra-curricular parkruns to see if there's one on near you.

For the avoidance of doubt, all Saturday runs will take place as usual (barring any freak weather occurrences or other unforeseen circumstances!).

Volunteers always welcome! If you're planning to turn out on NYD, perhaps this could be the occasion when you run at either South Oxhey or Cassiobury and volunteer at the other. Or make it your new year's resolution to volunteer in January ... your core crew and fellow runners will thank you! Check out the volunteering section of the website here.

Festive parkruns at Cassiobury

Following positive feedback, Cassiobury's parkrunners will be pleased to know that additional parkruns will be held on Friday 25th December 2015 and Friday 1st January 2016. Both will start at 9am as usual. Saturday parkruns will still be held as usual on 26th December and 2nd January.

As ever, we need 11 volunteers to make each event happen, so if anyone would like volunteer now, please contact us in the usual way and let us know the date on which you can help, your barcode number, and preferred role.

Festive dress is optional but welcomed! And if anyone has any ideas or suggestions about anything they'd like to see happening to make these runs more fun/festive, please don't hesitate to let us know!

Not all parkruns hold extra events at this time of year. Some of those that do will decide to hold their events earlier or later than usual so that, on New Year's Day, athletes can run two parkruns in one day. Check out the Christmas Compendium to see which events have said "yes", "no", or remain "undecided".

***EDITED*** to say that our close neighbours South Oxhey parkrun will be holding a New Year's Day run at 10.30! Given the proximity to Cassiobury (2m), travel between the two should be entirely feasible, giving athletes the option to run both or perhaps to run at one and volunteer at the other. Please keep those offers of volunteering coming for all dates! Many thanks.
