This week 301 people ran, jogged and walked the course in wet and slippery conditions, of whom 24 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests. A BIG Shoutout to all First Timers who braved the conditions and completed their first parkrun, together with the 26 selfless volunteers who gave their time to make this event possible for you.

Thank you to all the volunteers:

This brings to an end yet another successful parkrun event. Before I go I also want to thank all of you who participate and who make it possible to continue delivering the parkrun week after week after week. We received a glowing commendation this morning from a park user thanking parkrun for what they have done for the community offering this event and also to the friendly parkrunners and volunteers who are always ready with a smile and a greet. On this positive note I hand over to Tory who will direct the proceedings next week.

Good luck for the week ahead, especially those that are participating in events ranging from 5km’s to half marathons tomorrow and hope to see you all next week.

It was another lovely morning, for another lovely Castle Park parkrun and on Saturday morning 425 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 37 were first timers. I hope all the first timers enjoyed their run and all the tourists enjoyed their time at Castle Park and come back to visit us soon.

As usual our parkruns don’t go ahead without the help of of lovely volunteers, and this week the 27 people who have their names in lights are as follows;

If you are thinking about volunteering please do give it ago, we don’t bite and it is a lot of fun!

I think this week shall have to be renamed milestones week as there were quite a few! All these people need a big round of applause;
Lisa Moss, Alison Malcolm, Andrew Clark and Elizabeth Philips who all achieved 50 parkruns. Neil Sanderson reached his 100th whilst Beth Hart reached her 150th! And little Harriet Penketh who not only reached 10 parkruns and brought along some lovely biscuits, but got a new PB to top it all off! Well done to everyone, hopefully there'll be many more milestones to come.

One quick note from as the fair is still in town next weekend, it'll be another Castle Gardens start next weekend as well.

Right well I believe that's all from me - not to long a ramble this week!

Two favours I'd like to ask is please do not approach the time-keepers for your time as this is very difficult to manage and causes errors in the results for everyone, and PLEASE return the finish tokens - today we again lost 3 tokens!

Run Report – Castlepark parkrun Event #96

Castle Park parkrun
Event number 96
27th July 2019

This week 283 people ran, jogged and walked the course, enjoyed the cooler temperatures but most importantly, braved the elements mother nature had in store for us. With the First timers’ briefing and the main briefing taking place under the shelter of the trees to hide away from the persistent rain that started falling as we started setting up this morning, it promised to be a wet race and we were not disappointed.

We are extremely proud of the 25 first timers that completed the course and the 36 people who recorded new Personal Bests in these conditions. Representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

A huge shout out to the 24 volunteers who first of all pitched up and then withstood from running away in these treacherous conditions. If it is not for the volunteers this event won’t be possible. Here are our heroes of the day:

Samantha HOOD • Edd HOOD • Reg CLAYTON • Nicholas YEADON • Patrick CHAPPEL • Luke SHEPHERD • Kobus SMITH • Andrew TARRY • David YEADON • Karen LAMB • Isobel LAMB • David LAMB • Brian SULLIVAN • Josh STATHAM • William ROWE • Debbi COLLINS • Laura MELLING • Alan SHINGLER • Paula WALKER • Charlie CARRICK • Seamus POWER • Robert POWER • Fergus SHINNICK • Natalia LEIGHTON

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Castle Park parkrun Results Page.

Congratulations to Janet Ashpole and Peter Wenzel for completing their 50th parkruns.

The male record is held by Ian KIMPTON who recorded a time of 15:37 on 7th October 2017 (event number 2).

The female record is held by Annabel GUMMOW who recorded a time of 17:20 on 1st June 2019 (event number 89).

The Age Grade course record is held by Deborah RUSHMAN who recorded 91.44% (19:17) on 20th July 2019 (event number 95).

Castle Park parkrun started on 30th September 2017. Since then 4,582 participants have completed 29,465 parkruns covering a total distance of 147,325 km, including 5,428 new Personal Bests. A total of 518 individuals have volunteered 2,802 times.

This brings to an end my shift and I now hand the baton over to Francesca who will direct the proceedings next week. I will see you all again on the bank holiday weekend when we run our 100th parkrun at Castlepark. Until then.
