This week 255 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 34 were first timers and 65 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part.
Our first finishers this week were Daniel Molloy (18:26), his 12 time as first finisher in Castlewellan and Breige Russell (21:31), who recorded a PB. Well done to both. Finbar McGrady had been leading the run out in some style, but was forced to pull up close to the end with an injury – let’s hope it is not too serious and we wish Finbar a speedy recovery ahead of his summer triathlons and gigs!!!
We were joined by a number of visitors this week including a crew from Jog Lisburn, a number of the regular Run Directors from Wallace Park in Lisburn (Laura, Tim, Colin, Michael and Brendan – Lorna was not feeling the pressure in such illustrious company. There is nothing like having RDs from other events present!). We were also joined by a large contingent from Dromore Athletics Club. This group included Heather Kennedy and Pauline Compton, both of whom were completing their 50th parkrun (completing 6 & 13 respectively in Castlewellan). They were joined by their friend Christi Dougal, who was celebrating her birthday – we were not told how old she was, but judging from her youthful appearance, it was no more than 23! Also reaching the 50 milestone this week was Brian Bell, who has completed 21 of these at our event. Our final milestone of the week was Sarah Scannell who completed her 10th parkrun as a junior. Well done to all.
Pacer week again proved successful as evidenced by the 65 PBs recorded. These weeks add something special to our event and give people something to aim for. Our next pacer week (odd numbers) is on 15 June.
The event was made possible by 29 volunteers, led by RD Lorna Cunningham:

Thanks to those who answered our call during the week as we were short of volunteers. We do need some help in the two remaining Saturday’s in May, so if you can help out please let us know. We will also be sending out the appeal for June. As Lorna said in the briefing, the success of the event is totally dependent on the willingness of the parkrun community to do their bit in helping out.
Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Castlewellan parkrun Results Page.
