This week 189 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 22 were first timers and 35 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 16 different clubs took part. Poor weather during seemed to have a detrimental effect on the turnout today. However, as is often the case, the weather was fine for the duration of the parkrun and the only soaking was with sweat from endeavour!
Well done to our first finishers, David O’Flaherty (16:55), his 5th first finish & Martsje Hell (20:04), maintaining her 100% record of first finishes when participating at our parkrun. We had no major running milestones this week, but we have noticed that 5 of our regulars are on 49 or 48 completed parkruns and we should be having a week of celebration on 22 June if all goes to plan. No doubt those reaching such a milestone will bring cake, buns and maybe even ice cream!!! Happy Birthday to my old school mate Patricia O’Rourke who turned 23 today!
We think we had some other important landmarks today with 7 members of the O’Higgins family from Castlewellan taking part – only mum Kathleen was missing! We also had three generations from the one family with the two McMullan lads accompanied by their mum Bernie and grandad Oliver Quail. Well done to all. We are delighted that families use parkrun as an occasion to get out together. If anyone can emulate this or better it, please let us know!
