Conditions were awful on Saturday morning as parkrun hour approached. Nonetheless, despite the inclement and unseasonal weather, 133 turned up for their weekly parkrun fix. There were plenty of puddles to negotiate on the castle side of the lake, but this did not dampen the enthusiasm of those present, many of whom were following our dedicated pacers. Thanks to the following for being the first to model our swanky new pacer bibs: Daniel Molloy, Benoit Le Houerou, Danny O’Boyle, Joe McCann, Rita Devlin, Dave Crudgington (an 11th hour addition to the team who did a great job on his first outing as a pacer) and Mairead McComb. Our next pacer week will be on 20 July when it will be the turn of even numbers.
This week 133 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 19 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part. Our first finishers this week were Neil Curran (18:39) and Maeve Haigney (21:29 who set a PB whilst visiting from Beechmount).
Well done to Catherine Milligan who completed her 50th parkrun today, 49 of which have been in Castlewellan and the other a trip to Waterworks in North Belfast. Next week we are expecting some further 50 milestones, with Sara, Kevin and Michelle all notching up number 49 today. Well done also to Kieran McMahon who joined the exclusive ‘purple t-shirt club’, having volunteered today for the 25th time.
Thanks to Claire Black for promoting Men’s Mental Health Week with us and raising awareness of how to look after our well-being, both physically and emotionally.
