This Sunday in a slightly frosty Central Park was my first time as Run Director. I could not have done this without the support of the brilliant team of volunteers in the background beforehand, on the Sunday morning setting up, getting the run going, and afterwards packing away and processing all the children's results. Thank you.
This week before the start we handed out blue 'half marathon' wristbands to Jeremy Taylor and Jared Cobb – well done on 11 junior parkruns, and Edward Judd and Olivia Couzens collected their green 'marathon' wristbands for 21 junior parkruns.
On the day Alfie Larham ran his 50th junior parkrun, so we look forward to presenting him with an amazing orange 'ultra' wristband on his next run!
We had 35 children run, walk and skip round the park this week, some regulars and others who have only a few runs under their belt so far - and a special welcome to our first timer Ruby May Cranfield – we hope to see you again soon.
It was a close run towards the finish between Edward Elkin and Shae Gowler, with Shae crossing the line in front for a new PB, with Ed right behind. Our first girl finisher was Heidi Goodley-Gray, and second girl Megan Ferris was only 1 second from her previous PB too.
It was lovely to see some amazing smiles from the children as they came through our finish funnel and great cheers from the proud parents, friends and volunteers – that's what it's all about.
Thank you to everyone for making my first event as RD so enjoyable - children, families and volunteers. We always welcome new helpers, so do come and chat on a Sunday, or email firstname.lastname@example.org if you'd like to get involved, put on a high-viz jacket and rattle those blue clappy hands.
See you next Sunday! And don't forget your barcodes #DFYB
