Central Park junior parkrun #52

The clocks have gone back and the weather's getting colder - winter is just around the corner. But our hardy junior parkrunners continued to turn up in great numbers at Central Park this weekend.
Hopefully everyone remembered to change their clocks and didn't arrive an hour early!
Sunday saw 65 youngsters starting their day with a run around the park, with Chelsie Bole first across the line in 8:09, with Natty Clifford next home, and first boy, in 8:22. We then had two parkrun tourists crossing the line, with Felicity and Albert Waite finishing in 8:49 and 9:09 respectively.
We had four PBs on the day, with Haydn Blin (9:58), Jonah Carty (10:00), Ruby Lenton (10:30) and Jessie Goodley (10:47) all achieving new bests. Well done everyone!
We also had six new runners, with Felicity, Albert and Ida Waite, Oscar Beeby-Godsland, Ellen Adler and Benjamin Petto all making their Central Park debut. Hopefully they all enjoyed their first trip and will be back again soon.
Unfortunately we also had two runners who did not get a time as they did not have a barcode, so please make sure you remember yours in future!
Finally, a big thanks goes to all the volunteers who give up their Sunday mornings to ensure that the event can take place. If anyone is interested in helping out, please check out the Facebook page or website.

We need you!

We are nearly One!

As we come up to our 1st birthday we thought we'd have a few shout outs for the amazing achievements of our awesome mini athletes...

This year, our mini athletes have run, walked or skipped a total of 6334 km's, that's the equivalent of going from Peterborough to Florida USA

This year our mini athletes have spent 29 days 8 hrs 43 mins and 37 sec spinning around Central Park, which is the time it would take to fly around the world 6 times in a small plane (assuming the plane didn't need to stop for fuel)....

This year we have been visited by enough individual runners to fill The Cresset Theatre.

This year we have had 16 mini athletes that attended more than 50% of our junior parkruns. A special mention to Alfie Larham who has attended a monumental 45 Central Park junior parkruns. Good work everyone!!!

Happy Birthday Everyone

parkrun is fun for all

Now the school summer holidays are over, and the kids are settling in to their new school routine, it seems a good time to remind you of the importance of letting children participate for fun at parkrun. If your child wants to come along and smash out a PB then great, but please do remind them how brilliant they are for just wanting to be out and about in their local park, and that walking, skipping or singing their way around slowly is equally great. If you think either you or your child have lost sight of the enjoyment of a parkrun, why not volunteer together for a change, or see if they want to buddy up with another child who might be new or nervous and appreciate some company. #loveparkrun #juniorparkrun

Central Park junior parkrun #51

This was the 51st junior parkrun at Central Park.
There were 47 children running, 2 of them were first timers and 10 children got PBs (best time yet).
Here are the first timers; Amelie and Jack, we hope to see you again. Here are some of the children that got PBs; Heidi, Ella, Lola, Oliver and me!.
Thank you to the 25 volunteers. By the way there is no Junior parkrun this Sunday because of a half marathon, but that is not far it is only 11 Junior parkruns.
Please join us the week after for our first birthday.

Central Park junior parkrun #49

Well, I think we can finally say the summer is but a distant memory after Sunday's run. Let's just say it wasn't the most pleasant of mornings.
But a bit of rain and wind were not enough to put off our hardy parkrunners, with 44 youngsters making the Sunday morning pilgrimage to Central Park.
With such horrible weather, it's no surprise there wasn't a deluge of PBs, but a big well done needs to go to Connie Goodley and Heidi Goodley-Gray, who both recorded new best times.
We also welcomed three first timers, with Harry Cranke, Maisie Goodley and Liana Jones all making their debuts.
First across the line this week was Joseph Reindel, in a fantastic time of 7:17. Next in, and first girl, was Evie Hemings in 8:06, followed by Edward Judd, who was just a second behind.
Once again, thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers, who gave up a nice Sunday lie-in in their warm dry houses to ensure that the event went ahead. More helpers would always be nice, so if you are interested in lending a hand, just check out the website or Facebook page.

Central Park junior parkrun #47

There was a great turnout at Central Park on Sunday for Junior parkrun #47, with some fantastic runs from our youngsters.
In total, there was 10 PBs recorded on the day, with Evie Hemmings, Wilbur Kennedy, Heidi Goodley-Gray, Munro Kennedy, Rachael Walker, Nelly Britton, Lexie King, Millie Meadows, Kaelan McGougan and Zac Watson all achieving their best times ever! Well done everyone, brilliant running.
First across the line on the day was Evie Hemmings in a brilliant time of 8:02. She was followed home by Ryan Ingram and Louie Hemmings.
It was also great to welcome lots of new runners to the parkrun family, with Blue Gowler, Jasmine Heron, Shae Gowler, Haadi Umar Ijaz, Noah Smith, Ayman Umar Ijaz, Jude Cole, Penny Stringer and Lola Bennett all running for their first time. Hopefully, they will all become familiar faces at Central Park on Sunday mornings!
Once again, thanks to all our wonderful volunteers. Without them giving up their time, there would be no event. If you would like to help out, please visit the website or the volunteers Facebook page.

Central Park junior parkrun #46

We have been running our junior parkrun for nearly a year now (where has the time gone) and it has been great to meet so many like minded children and their parents, many of which make junior parkrun possible by volunteering to keep us safe.

A massive thanks to everyone, we all appreciate you giving up your time so we can run.

If your bringing down a youngster, or maybe not, but you’d like to get involved, please email us at centralpark-juniorshelpers@parkrun.com or on our Facebook page. There are many roles, they will be explained to you and nothing is really scary, I promise, I’ve done most of them myself.

64 juniors including 4 first timers ran around our lovely park on Sunday morning setting 13 new personal best times along the way - well done!!

We had many “unknown” runners this week so to avoid being one of those in future, remember to print off your barcode and bring it along or (it’s getting near that time) you might want to think about asking Santa for a flashy wristband or shoe tag, available from the parkrun website, with your barcode specially printed and you’ll never forget it again - just remember to change the tag onto your new shoes when the time comes.

Many of our regular runners are closing in on their next wristband so you’ll have to be on best behaviour to make sure Mum/Dad brings you so you can get that bling sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately one young man couldn’t finish his junior parkrun this week. We hope you are feeling much better and we can’t wait to welcome you and your family back once the rugby season has finished.

See you next week!!
