Last week we hit the heady height of the 3rd largest attended parkrun in the UK:
Biggest UK parkruns: Bushy Park (1295), Heaton Park (801), Chelmsford Central (734)
All the cancellations for Storm Dennis helped!

For this week we were the 8th highest attended UK parkrun.

This week 716 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 61 were first timers and 75 recorded new Personal Bests.

Running Inspiration
We have seen a lot of runners at Chelmsford Central parkrun over the last 7+ years and most have a parkrun story they could tell us about, how they started, where it lead them on their running journey, what parkrun each week means to them. In his own words here is Rob Duncombe story of the effect parkrun has had on his running:

"Having just completed another ultra marathon I wanted to drop a note of thanks to everyone associated with Chelmsford parkrun. In 2015 I completed my first parkrun as preparation for my first marathon in 2016, at the age of 48. Since that first parkrun and marathon my legs have barely stopped moving, and last week I competed in, and finished, one of the toughest races going, a 250km run through the jungles of Costa Rica. (Snakes, crocodiles, 40'C and 80% humidity).
I never in my wildest dreams imagined that in my 50's I'd be running not only marathons but ultra marathons in amazing places.... I really don't believe I'd be doing this if it wasn't for parkrun and the amazing community of runners, volunteers and organisers associated with it... So thank you all... I'm always happy to talk about running, particularly if you are thinking about running a marathon - or that bit further. Do stop me for a chat, I'm usually shouting at a cockerpoo called Dougal and telling him to slow down."

VI Runners and Guides
As most of you know, we have a number of Visually Impaired (VI) runners attending each week and one of our regulars recently published an article on Essex Live website about his sight loss which you can read HERE.

Alex Innes is doing a number of events for Charity and there is an interesting one that takes away your sight while you eat a meal. We see the food we are going to eat so we have preconceptions of what it will taste like such as brussel sprouts (everyones favourite!) but try to imagine if you can't see what you are eating, your taste buds need to go into overdrive to work out what it is.
If you are interested you can book a place at A Canteen HERE.

I would like to give credit and thanks to Sue Mapes who is an unsung volunteer who pulls together all of the guides for their runners each weeks and took it upon herself to do this from the first enquiry we had about providing VI guides. Thanks Sue!

International Womens Day
On the 7th March we will be supporting this event.
In England the IWD parkrun celebration is being supported by This Girl Can, a campaign created by our partner Sport England.
Our research shows us that, across the world, women are less likely than men to take part in parkrun. Despite the fact that females make 54% of registrations, they are less likely than men to take part in parkrun and to continue participating. IWD parkrun is a fantastic opportunity to encourage more women and girls to participate in parkrun events all over the world.
