It is with deepest sadness that we have to report the passing of Mandy.
Mandy had been battling cancer and regretfully, it finally caught up with her, she passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning 17th December.
Those of you who have been with us over the last four years will have at some point come across Mandy either through her email communication with you for volunteering or on the day of the event covering a multitude of volunteering roles.
She has been an absolute stalwart of the core team for the last few years, forever smiling and sharing her infectious and happy demeanour with us and all parkrunners that crossed her path.
Mandy did a lot behind the scenes during the week and on each parkrunday to make the event happen for the enjoyment of others.
Mandy started her parkrun journey in June 2015 with her first volunteering role and had completed 178 volunteer events covering 269 different tasks.
She had only completed 4 actual parkruns, with the last being on the 19th October, when she wanted to actually do the course and it was partly in a wheelchair assisted by Alan and Sam Chambers, this was unbeknown to her husband Clive who was away at the time.
She showed incredible spirit and determination to walk across the finish line.
Mandy absolutely loved coming to parkrun each week and made so many new friends and I know they will be deeply saddened of the loss of a dear friend to them and parkrun. Parkrun is too many of us, not just a run in the park for an hour on a Saturday morning. It means many things to many different people and however you take part we hope it enriches your life as it did for Mandy.
Our very deepest condolences to Clive who has lost a wife and companion of over 30 years and all her family and friends.
We will be taking a few moments at Saturdays run to remember Mandy with an applause, we hope you will join us in this.
If you have a "purple" 25 tee, please wear it in recognition of Mandy and it was a favourite colour of hers.
The parkrun core team.
