A big milestone today as we reached our one hundredth event. So, a modest pat on the back to everyone involved.
Today was my first junior parkrun. My own grandchildren are not yet quite old enough to run but it is my ambition to run with three generations of my family at parkrun so today was a little spying mission to see what the Chichester Junior parkrun is all about.
So what did I see ? At 8:00 Elaine and Lynette started setting up the course ( Cor ! They are keen aren't they ?). I tried to help but probably just got in the way - another few months and I might get the hang of it. Gradually Mums, Dads and their little darling children started to appear. Big ones, small ones, fit looking ones, all sorts (and that's just the Dads).
By 9:00 some sense of organisation started to emerge as Lynette blew the whistle (loudly !) and briefed the entire thronged masses.Congratulations to everyone who received wrist bands to recognise their progress today. Lucy led an energetic warm up session on a slightly chillier morning than recently and then, Ready, Steady, GO ! It was fantastic to witness so much positive energy being released - quite a contrast to the normally tranquil and beautiful setting of our historic Priory Park. Can you imagine that this is where Romans actually lived, walked (and ran ?) over 1600 years ago ?
It was great to see everyone doing their best - it's not always easy but there were plenty of smiles at the finish. And then it was over and Priory Park went back into Sunday morning snooze mode as Lynette and our volunteers tidied up. The rain then arrived to ensure that we could now enjoy the rest of the day in traditional English holiday weekend weather.
Today we had 61 runners and 20 volunteers. That's quite something early on a sleepy Sunday morning in Chichester. Well done to everyone but with particular thanks to our volunteers - brilliant as always - without whom we would have no parkrun. Today they were.....
Chris ARMSTEAD, Clare AYLING, Jo BRINING, Joseph CASSFORD, Tim CASSFORD, Ellie CASSFORD, Lucy CASSFORD, Elaine CRUTTENDEN, Loella HARRIS, Derrick HARRIS, Lucy HOUSTON, Mike HOUSTON, Suzi JONES, Trea LANGFORD, Karl LOWE, Jill RENSON, Yvonne SHERRINGTON, Geoff SUMNER, David TURNER, Lynette WOODWARD
Our parkrun always needs quite a few volunteers in order to run efficiently and safely. You may be surprised about how enjoyable and satisfying it is to help make our event possible, so please give volunteering a try.
